Former Beatle Paul McCartney is planning a benefit concert to aid NYC firefighters. More then 300 New York City firefighters who were at the World Trade Center following the terrorist attacks on September 11th are missing and presumed dead.
McCartney laid out his plans in a statement issued last Friday (9-21). McCartney said in part, "What I am going to do is a concert here in New York within the next month to benefit all the firemen," said the former Beatle. "I also have a connection there, because my father was a fireman in Liverpool during World War II."
More details on this benefit concert are
expected shortly. McCartney said that he was onboard a plane in New York
waiting to depart for London when the terrorist attacks on the World Trade
Center took place. The flight was canceled and McCartney was stranded in
New York. "I've been here in New York ever since and, in a way, I was pleased
to be here to witness all the heroism," he said.
