Russian Space Agency have officially requested permission from International Space Station Multilateral Coordination Board to launch Bass into space to visit the International Space Station in October, reports MTV.
"It's official, he's their candidate," NASA spokesperson Dwayne Brown told MTV News on Tuesday (July 6). "We did indeed receive a letter nominating Lance Bass for the October flight."
The Russian request to launch Bass in October is currently under review by the Multilateral Crew Operations Panel who are holding meetings this week. The panel will look at the Russian request and determine if Bass meets the requirements to be eligible for the trip. If approved by the panel, the entire International Space Station Multilateral Coordination Board that includes members from 17 partner nations will have to approval final approval.
Bass is undergoing a rigorous four-month crash course of training (2 months shorter than the standard training regimen). The trip wont be cheap and Bass will have to come up with $20 million dollars to fund his flight into space but the MTV news report states that he is working out the financing with corporate sponsors and is close to finalize a deal with a television network, who will air a special on his training and trip into space.
But time is of the essence and Bass will have to work hard to meet the training requirements, hope his application is quickly approved and finalize the financing of the trip if he is to go into space in October.
