Legendary bass player for The Who John Entwistle
died in Las Vegas of a heart attack today (June 27) at the age of 57. Just
one day before The Who was to launch their latest North American tour.
Not many details were known at press time
but here is the information we were able to gather.
Launch Media is reporting Entwistle suffered
a heart attack in his hotel room at the Hard Rock Hotel And Casino in Las
Vegas, according to Clark County (Nevada) Fire Department spokesperson
Bob Leinbach.
Paramedics went to the Hard Rock Hotel
sixth floor at about noon, he said. They found a man who had died, they
say, in his sleep. No struggles, no drugs, no violence, and the coroner
went over and got the body and took it over to the coroner's office."
Reuters reported the following: With Entwistle's
death, The Who are down to just two original members, singer Roger Daltrey
and guitarist/songwriter Pete Townshend. Original drummer Keith Moon died
of an accidental pill overdose in 1978.
Entwistle, who was born in the London
suburb of Chiswick on Oct. 9, 1944, joined Daltrey in a forerunner of The
Who in the early 1960s while working as a tax clerk. Said Reuters in their
report of Entwistles death on Thursday. The band ultimately took shape
in 1964 and made an immediate impression with its Mod stylings and its
expensive habit of trashing all its stage equipment after each set.
The band was set to begin a North American
tour on Friday.
