musicNEWS: Lead Bizkit, Durst Wants Borland Back.
05-27-02 antiGUY

It looks as if Fred Durst’s plans to “comb the globe in search of the illist guitar player known to man.  Then were gonna take this illist guitar player known to man and were gonna finish writing the sickest new undeniable Limp Bizkit record you could ever imagine,” haven’t panned out because last week he posted a request to fans on the official Limp Bizkit site to email Wes Borland and plead for him to "come back to his family."

"We are still jamming right now," wrote Durst. "We are hoping Wes will come back and surprise us one day soon, though. We really miss him. But he's doing his thing and he's supposedly really happy. … If you want, email Wes and tell him to come back to his family at tongueofcolicab@earthlink.net, if it still works "

When Borland left the group last October it created quite a stir with Borland accusing his former bandmates of selling out and Durst promising to take the band’s “song writing to a whole new level.” First Limp Bizkit set out to audition unknown guitarists across the US, but that ended in controversy with rumors flying that Limp Bizkit was having guitar hopefuls sign away the rights to the music they played in their auditions. An accusation that Durst and the Limp Bizkit venomously denied and blamed the spread of the rumor on “haters”.

This latest plea for fans to ask Borland to return sets a remarkably different tone than the one Durst set when he chatted with fans online late last year soon after Borland left the band. During the chat Durst had this to say about Borland and his departure from the group, [reprinted as Fred typed it] “right now we are looking for a fresh new young guitarist who can really rip and blow wes out of the water.” Durst told fans during an online chat. “if anyone can tell wes he fuckt up, ill give you his email address right now… he left us hanging, cashed in & ran… yea he was unhappy, his unhappiness was
with me making things happen for us & hes all about the money.”  It now appears that Durst is over his bitterness and wants to put the group back together.

Wes quickly put together a new band and told fans the following, “Ross Robinson is on board for the record and it’s going to be great. The new band is Me, my brother Scott Borland, Kyle Weeks, and Greg Isabelle,” Said Borland in an online posting. “I didn’t abandon you  guys, I am making a record for myself and for you that is true, and feels good. It is not going to be like Big dumb Face. BDF was a joke, and a side project. Everyone took it too seriously. Well, we’re about to give you a serious record, so look out for it, I hope we will have it out by the middle of next year, and we will be on tour for a long time after that, getting back into the small clubs, so that we can be close and hang out again. I hope that many of will be able to open your hearts to something new.”

No one is quite sure what prompted Durst to make this plea for Borland’s return; rumor had it that the band had located a new guitarist, Mike Smith, the former axeman for Snot.

We will keep you posted on developments.

Update 4-28: It appears that Wes has refused Fred’s call to have him return to the group. Fred posted the following message to the official Limp Bizkit website today. (reprinted exactly as posted on that site, grammar and spelling errors are Fred’s not ours!)

well hello again. happy memorial day to all of you. i hope its been a zaney and safe one for ya. im glad that you people read my news recently about mr borland. hes recieved your emails and has responded negatively, but thats no reason to give up. he replied by saying that 75% of all his emails were telling him to never be with limp bizkit. im glad some of you feel that way, but we dont and we’re not fair weather friends.  we love wes and have done so through our good and bad times. life is too short for some, and unpredictable for everyone!! all that we have and all whom we know now, which would be you, is from what we have done with our family, limp bizkit. the fact that we are all different is what makes our chemistry so good. we learn from each others mistakes. we dont need justification for reasons. we’re very happy to be alive and would be happier sharing our lives with our family. our core family. if we felt any differently than this, thats when you could, should be cautious, but you can know in your hearts that we are here for you no matter what. that wont change. we wont turn on you. we will get through the trials of life with one another as it should be. and that you can count on.  actions tell all. as for mr borland, he is very bitter at the moment and feels glad that you support his decision and so he should. we support him too, but we know why we’re all here and we want to exstend open arms that will remain open forever. we want to grow and reinvent for ourselves and we will always WANT to do it with our real family. im sure some of you will understand. a lot of you will and alot of you wont give a shit, but thats the world as we know it.  maybe today is different. just maybe.  thanks for taking a minute.

friend 4 life,

fred durst
