Pearl Jams official website has reported
that lead vocalist Eddie Vedder has penned a tribute song for Layne Staley,
the Alice In Chains front man who died from a drug overdose last April.
Although Pearl Jams official site has
stated that Vedder has written the song, it also says that it may never
be released. Which begs the question of why they reported about it in the
first place?
Alice in Chains was one of the first bands
from the Seattle scene to break nationally in the early 90s. Shortly after
their single, Man in a Box became a hit in 1990, the grunge explosion
was ignited when Nirvanas Smells Like Teen Spirit became a monster hit
the following year. Pearl Jam along with Alice in Chains and Nirvana
became some of the biggest bands in music in the early 90s.
Staley was found dead in his home last
April. The 34 year-old singer was reported to have suffered a drug overdoes.
Police discovered his body after his family asked them to check on his
well-being. They were concerned since Staley had not been heard from in
a few weeks. Police went to Staleys Seattle University District apartment
where they discovered his body and Staley had apparently been dead for
sometime.
Despite the claim that the song will not
be released, since it the cat is now out of the bag, it seems likely that
it will one day surface.
