Two bands (lyricists) are racing for the good of all soundkind... Flaming Lips win by at least 8 years. Now what do you do? Write your own songs, or copy what you heard last millennium. In the case of "Every One of Us", Goldrush strangely chose to race for a prize already collecting dust on someone else's shelf. I haven't heard a more blatant rip-off that wasn't simply a cover since Vanilla Ice claimed originality by adding one note to Queen. Like its predecessor, "Every One of Us" is a quality song, but it's not Goldrush.
"Words are sometimes so obscene." This is the alter ego of influence for The Heart Sounding like Pete Townsend minus the rock opera, songs like "24 Hours" and "We Will Not Be Machines" portray the sensitive mod. This influence is gently perceived rather than criminally shocking.
Goldrush is dripping with skills worthy of selling out Wembley, but covering bands that've had sell outs isn't the formula. Goldrush still has to completely buy into itself before anyone else should.
Tracks added to iPod: Aperture, The Story of the City, Every One of Us, Can't Give Up the Ghost, 24 Hours, We Will Not Be Machines
