Melee - Devils and Angels Review

by Sherrill Fulghum

.
This quartet of long time friends from Orange County, California formed their band in 1999. The band's newest release "Devils and Angels" is an album about being in the twenties in America today. Band members said that they wanted to make and album for their generation. Among the songs of love, friends, and fights with the (ex)girlfriend is "Rhythm of the Rain" a song that was inspired by Hurricane Katrina; accepting what comes and living on despite it all. "We try to cover all the bases," said lead singer and piano player Chris Cron. While the band gets a bit heavy at times; it is still an album of good rock and roll.

The band who sounds like Sugar Ray with a bit of Keane and Bowling for Soup with a little of the seventies sound from The Bay City Rollers, and a generous portion of Sir Elton's rocking piano thrown is spent part of 2004 as a part of the Warped Tour.

Siting John Legend, Chris Martin and Sir Elton John among their influences Melee has learned how to grab you attention and keep it through out an album or a how. The opening track and first single from "Devils and Angels" "Built to Last" grabs a hold of you and will not let go. The song runs around in your head for days. Also included on the album is a bonus hidden track a cover of the Hall and Oates hit "You Make My Dreams Come True".

While the hit television show about life in southern California "The OC" may be over; that life lives on with Melee and "Devils and Angels".
