Simply Red - Stay Review

by Sherrill Fulghum

.
In 1984 a blues rock band from Manchester, England emerged on the musical scene and over the next several years they produced chart topping hits on both sides of the Atlantic. Michael James "Mitch" Hucknall, winner of three Brit Awards and two Ivor Novella Awards, not only formed the band but is also the primary songwriter for the band who gave the band its name with his mane of red hair. Simply Red is an eleven piece band that is a smaller blues rock version of Chicago.

Over 29 years after their debut album Simply Red has released a new album "Stay"; a collection of 10 songs and eleven tracks - "So Not Over You" appears twice on the album once as a studio version and again as a live version.

"Stay" is an album from Simply Red that fans would expect from the band with Mitch's unmistakable voice and the Simply Red sound; no surprises but no disappointments either. Simply Red fans and those who long for the sound of the eighties when the music was less like a cookie cutter factory assembly line will find "Stay" a must have add to their musical collections.
