Valerian - Guerilla Fighting Method Review

by Matthew Hastie

.
I'm actually pretty surprised to find a band out of Finland that doesn't play metal. That's not a bad thing though since there is a serious lack of bands that just play ballsy rock and roll. With similarities to Guns N Roses, Rage Against the Machine, and Soundgarden, Valerian put together a decent album of rocking songs though it's nothing groundbreaking. If you've been into rock music over the last 15 or so years then you will not be too surprised by what you hear.

The album opens up with the sounds of helicopters and then launches into "Fugitive" which is pretty reminiscent of "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N Roses. The acoustic track "My Only Hope" is pretty well put together as well as the Sublime sounding "Soldier of Fortune". I would like to hear what the band could do with a little more originality and a little less heavily influenced music. I would like to say more about this album, but there's not much left to say due to its lack of originality. It's not a bad record and it's worth a few listens, but it's just been done already.
