From the Basement: Radiohead, White Stripes, Eels, Beck, Sonic Youth and more

Renowned producer, Nigel Godrich, trumps the music world yet again with his "From the Basement" series, leaving this reviewer utterly blown away. The DVD, "From the Basement" is more than a collection of videos and songs. It is a deeply personal experience leaving the listener with the feeling of having been treated to a private show. Only there is no banter, no chatter, no distraction. There is simply, music.

In the words of Nigel Godrich, "The whole emphasis of the show is about being artist friendly and making our bands as comfortable as possible so that they can give great performances without the usual agony of TV promo which everyone has to do but no one seems to enjoy. ..It also doesn't hurt that a lot of the people we've filmed are friends or people we've worked with before so they trust us and know that we understand what recording music is about as well as making good TV."

While some of the recordings are available on iTunes, this is the first time all of these recordings have appeared together under one album.

The DVD is beautifully shot in high-definition, providing the viewer the utmost luxury and clarity in high-tech recording. There is no distraction from poor color or sound quality. The background is warm, rustic, and inviting.

I would highly recommend this DVD for the avid music fan. Spanning a collection of artists as diverse as Radiohead, The White Stripes, PJ Harvey, The Shins, and more, this is one DVD that every collector should possess.
