Breckenfeld is a working drummer and instructor in addition to being a regular contributor to Modern Drummer Magazine where he authors the Off the Record column. This book collects more than fifty of the columns that Breckenfeld has written over the past decade and groups them into the categories "Modern Rockers," "Heroes of Punk," "Metal Masters," "Funk's Finest," "Wizards of Prog" and "Classic Rock Greats." So everyone from Ringo Starr and Keith Moon to Chad Butler (Switchfoot) and Myles Heskett (Wolfmother) is represented. Each chapter features numerous drum parts transcribed; for example the chapter on John Dolmayan of System of a Down shows drummers how to pound out the highlights of "Bubbles," "Innervision," "Thetawaves," "Streamline" and four other songs. The book also comes with a CD that includes 175 examples in the mp3 format.
