SwampDaWamp - Rock This Country

by J Simpson

.
Rock This Country is the third offering from Charlotte, NC's own SwampDaWamp. The disc was released in September and consists of 12 original tracks of that southern rock sound that SwampDaWamp is known for.

SwampDaWamp is a band for the real working class man and true Americans. They're a band that likes to get down and party with the best of them but also a band that has morals and is patriotic to their country. The group consists of Gig Michaels (lead vocals & acoustic guitar) David Lee (drums) Michael Hough (guitar & vocals) Keith Inman (guitar) Mike Huffman (keyboards & vocals) and Cody Bennett (bass).

Rock This Country starts off with a couple of mid tempo tunes "Lady" and "Helluva Nigh"t which has Gig, shall we say, serenading his Cajun queen. The disc continues on with a catchy tune called "Good God then American Man", a song celebrating the blue collar working class of America. The rest of the disc follows this recipe of deep fried southern rock with a semi ballad thrown in called "Daddy Said" and "Welcome to the Inn" which is one of the weaker songs in my opinion, but stands out because of the funky beat it has.

The album ends on a song called "Stoned" discussing different historic accomplishments and how some very famous people like Hemingway and Poe may have just reached these achievements with the help of being "Stoned". (Don't remember that in my history books but it would explain a lot).

The one thing that really stuck out to me on this disc is Gig Michaels vocals, they have a home grown sound that fits so perfectly in this southern rock type music that they seem larger than life. Bottom line is, if you like bands such as Skynard, 38 Special or any band where the lead singers first name is Hank you should check SwampDaWamp out. You may be happy you did.
