There are tons of good synthesizer players working today but if you desire to make a list of true "synth gods" chances are your mind will flash back to the golden days of prog rock where you can toss around names like Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson. Synth Gods, however, doesn't focus just on prog players; Wakeman is the only real prog superstar included in this selection of interview pieces culled from the deep archives of Keyboard Magazine. The disparate group of players profiled includes early synth master Walter Carlos (interviewed here post sex-change as Wendy Carlos), innovator Brian Eno, jazz fusionist Jan Hammer, the soundtrack-prone Vangelis and New Waver Gary Numan. In the chapter with Prince his royal purple-ness talks about composing for keyboard and also about his two main keys men Renato Neto and Chance Howard. Obviously the book is compiled especially for synth players but music fans in general will be entertained here as well. Among those featured in other chapters are Trent Reznor, Dr. Robert A. Moog, Jean Michel Jarre, Tomita, Edgar Winter and Bernie Worrell.
