What a scrumptious idea! It seems that cookbooks of every sort can be easily found at your local or online bookseller---tomes for vegetarians, vegans, bacon lovers, dieters, cupcake lovers and you-name-its fill shelves with thousands of ideas on how to fill the tummy. Now thanks to Steve Seabury, the bass player for Motheater, there's a cookbook for fans of heavy metal. Seabury has used his standing in the musician community to plumb the minds and bellies of his metal colleagues for their favorite recipes and published nearly a hundred of them here along with varying degrees of commentary from the "chefs." Some are short and sweet; Aaron Jellum's (Laaz Rockit) recipe for Grilled Red Onion Steaks more or less just tells you to put onion on your steak but most of the moshers take advantage of the opportunity to have some fun. Blaze Bayley (Iron Maiden, Wolfsbane) for example tells you right off the bat that his recipe for Sausage Curry is not a healthy option and advises that you head to the pub and drink lots of Guinness before you attempt to whip up the dish. But he does provide an actual recipe along with plenty of humorous instruction. Of course there's always a joker in the crowd (yes, I mean you Lemmy!) to offer up a bit of schoolboy insanity. You probably don't want to try making the Motorhead madman's flaming Krakatoa Surprise, containing only flour, refried beans, curry powder, strawberry and chocolate syrups and a significant amount of brandy. And this is all part of the fun of Mosh Potatoes; thumbing through the book you'll come up with recipes you'll want to try, some that cause you to shake your head and others that'll leave you in tears (or maybe that's the onion) The veritable who's-who of contributors includes a pinch of stars like Zakk Wylde, Ritchie Blackmore, Joey Belladona, David Ellefson, Lita Ford and Max Cavalera as well as a full cup of metal munchies ideas as scripted by members of lesser-known and underground bands like Cauldron, Howl, Priestess, Toxic Holocaust, Whitechapel and Black Tusk. Bon apptit!
