When Summer's Gone - Knockout Mechanism

.
Knockout Mechanism is When Summer's Gone's first full-length release since 2009 and also the first album written and recorded by its full lineup. It's a workmanlike effort, at best.
The album mixes punk-like beats, such as the opener "After All," and more methodical, grunge-inspired tracks, such as "All Out War." The trouble with this album (and band as a whole, for that matter) is that it just doesn't have many distinguishing features. None of these tracks scream single, nor does the musicianship make you return to any one track again and again.
Listening to Knockout Mechanism feels like being at one of these all-day hard rock festivals. It's early in the afternoon, and some wannabe rock stars are up on stage giving it their very best. They have all the mechanics down, much like a professional pitcher on a baseball pitching mound, but there isn't any stuff to blow us all away. After all's said and done, you find yourself clapping politely but waiting impatiently for the headliner.
