Bitter's Kiss - Self-titled

.
Bitter's Kiss's obvious big selling point is vocalist Chloe Baker, who sings in a little girl's voice, yet obviously retains a worldly-wise perspective on life. Based in Weehawken, NJ, Chloe sings and plays guitar and piano, while Michael Baker plays guitar, piano, bass and drums.

This self-titled eight-song release is comprised of mostly gentle pop. The music is tracked in such a way that it never overpowers what Chloe is singing. Although she can sound relatively lighthearted, "The Rope" is a dead serious song (no pun intended) about a distant cousin's suicide. In contrast, "Lovin' Life" is an upbeat song about - you guessed it - loving life.

There are moments during this release where the band The Innocence Mission comes to mind. There is just something beautiful about listening to Chloe's voice while she sings. And to think she's still a young woman, with so much music experience ahead of her. She may just be destined to be a great one, so keep an eye on her.
