From the tribal drum beat that intros the song to the woozy grind of guitar throughout and to singer David Garcia's impassioned and forceful vocals, Origin's opener "Take it All" demonstrates that this foursome from Atlanta have their fingers squarely on the pulse of what scores big at rock radio these days. Not that that's a surprise; two advance singles from the album, "Bitch" and "Everything," hit the charts well before Origins dropped. Lyrically most of the songs here are about love relationships, many of which have gone sour; among the best are the big, classic melodic metal-leaning "Left Inside," the post-grunge sounding "City of Angels" and the industrial-tinged "Adrenaline." And although the subject matter here often reflects a certain amount of misery, each tune comes complete with a catchy chorus or hook that's easy to sing along to, balancing out the angst with a sense of positivity. As their first full-length release, Origins signals a big beginning for a band ready to go the distance.
