Winchester Revival - Burden's Landing

.
Winchester Revival sounds like a relatively straight forward rock band - at least until we get to the song "Diligence," off its Burden's Landing album. This track is odd in that it has a bit of a dance groove to it. In place of typical electronic dance instrumentation, however, this track features what sound like more organic instruments. The violin on it is particularly enjoyable.

Closer "Ice Water" couldn't me more different from "Diligence," with its herky-jerky groove that sounded like a progressive workout that would never go off well at a disco. "Last Night In Tokyo" also has a rhythm that may throw you off balance, yet its lightened by a pretty, jangling electric guitar part.

It's difficult to precisely peg Winchester Revival stylistically, which makes Burden's Landing such a constantly surprising joy. Just when you think you have this band in a preconceived box, they climb out in a completely different form.
