Backstreet Boys Review

Posted by Me:
I love how some people have no problem insulting the BSB, but then get insulted and angry when you bad-mouth their music. I, and I admit this, am a fan of the Backstreet Boys. However, I'm also a fan of the Beatles, Bush, Jay-Z, and TLC. As you can see, my musical taste is very diverse. I just wish that people will let everyone be. I would like to listen to my Backstreet Boys CD without anyone saying 'They suck' or 'They're gay'. For God's sake, if you don't like it, keep your opinions to yourself!!! I doubt the Backstreet Boys give a crap what a select few think. As someone who went to 2 of their concerts (and enjoyed them), I can say there were alot more adult women there that 'teenyboppers'. I guess the point i'm trying to make is that if you don't like them, too bad. Then don't listen to them. And no, I'm not a teenybopper. I'm 19.

i wanted to start at the oldest post and read forward, but i just couldn't. how about this: if you can't spell or even form coherent sentences, spend some time educating yourself so you can communicate your opinions, then come back and write. how many of you people are illiterate here? geez!

Well, 'Parent', if it's about getting the 'big bucks', then you've really degraded BSB more than enough for us. :) Remember, a 'singing talent' is something too intuitive, so don't give us suggestions on going to a pre-fab show, we've been there, done that, and it sucks.

I went to the BSB Black and Blue concert in Minneapolis, MN and thought they were wonderful. I greatly appreciated most of their songs and hope that the angry people who wrote against them will at least see their concert and make a fair assessment of their singing talent. They are not great dancers nor are they awesome instrument musicians, but they have charisma and a stage presence. That's why they get the big bucks and you just get to write about it.

Posted byLightRage:
Hmm and they tell me to "grow up" for not spelling worth a '$hit'.

Posted byJust me:
I think that this is propably the best album I have ever heard. This $hit where everyone tells their oppinions and comments everybodyelse's commets... Please, grow up. I really do LOVE MUSIC so much so where's the point of putting down on every single group or music style you don't personally like?! I like so many different kind of music, that I can't put down anyone or anything. Think about that. Thanks, that was MY oppinnion =)

Posted byPsychoPunkGirl:
I think honestly that pop music sucks especially all these stupid boybands I mean who cares about them they are dumb i think people should get into punk music cuz first of all its awesome it's not about puppy love crap it has a great beat and i mean come on who wants to hear backstreet boys on the radio it gets annoying after awhile, do you ever hear punk music playing on the radio no i don't think so well thats what i think of pop music and this article......

Posted byaysa:
i think that black and blue was a great album and for this album i think that the backstreet boys should get alot more respect than what they have been getting, and to say that to take them seriously would be an insult i feel is just completely wrong in fact i think that this album should give them more respect.in your artical you make is seem as if only pop lovin teeny boppers listen to their music but see i listen mainly to hip-hop rap and r&b the backstreet boys are the only so called pop group i listen to and i think they are good at what they do in fact they are my favorite group.i think that you should re-word your artical and make it be made for nsyncs no strings attached

Posted byLightRage:
hmm nope, I don't need to bother with Rebekah's drivel. :)

Posted byWhatever:
What makes you think rock bands only write about shooting people? or killing them? there are some great love songs from rock bands. Well you've got a point about those people you mentioned. but they had their own style, they're not a bunch of copycats that break into the music scene when one type of act becomes 'trendy'. Stop thinking you're living in a perfect world rebekah, there are songs not only exclusively about shootings in the rock genre. Do backsreet boys songs highlight the evils of racism? The brutal ravages of war? The inhumanity of the electric chair? I don't think so. So stop your nonsense about music having to feel good. What about funeral music? It's supposed to make you feel good? I don't see people jumping around at the funerals. Music is supposed to capture a wide variety of emotions, not only love or happiness. Rock songs cover a wide variety of issues from love to death and even stuff beyond that. Notice that the furthest most boyband or teenage girls acts ever go is 'Should i have sex on the first date?' or 'Does he like me?' or 'Ooh i'm sad cause my boyfriend is cheating on me and wants to break up'. Good luck defending your pop heroes. Another thing is that pop is sold mostly due to exposure and clever marketing, not talent. Don't try to kid yourself that BSB has talent just because they topped the charts, or sold a gazillion records, or they were handed a grammy. This means nothing to most of us rock fans. It's all about the talent and the quality of the music.

Posted byrebekah:
I AM SO SICK OF PEOPLE PUTTING DOWN POP!!!!JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T WRITE ALL OF YOUR SONGS OR PLAY INSTUMENTS DOES NOT MEAN YOU DON'T HAVE TALENT!!!EVERY BODY DOESNT HAVE TO SING SONGS ABOUT SHOOTING SOMEONE OR PUTTING A BULLETT IN YOUR BRAINS !!MUSIC IS SUPPOSED TO MAKE YO FEEL GOOD NOT FEEL DEPRESSED LIKE MOST OF THE ROCK BANDS AND RAPPERS!!!THERE HAVE BEEN LOTS OF TALENTED SINGERS WHO DID NOT WRITE THERE SONGS AND THEY WERE GREAT!!LIKE NAT KING COLE,FRANK SINATRA,JUDY GARLEND,DEAN MARTIN!! BUT THEY WERE STILL AWESOME SO BACK OFF!!

Posted byEmerald:
Music should be about expressing yourself artistically. BSB sing what rakes in the money. It takes little talent to sing, dance, and look good. There are millions that 'talented'. Good music is something that actually requires real talent. Something not everyone else can do. BSB are a load of sh*t.

Posted byPoo:
you people are pathetic. go listen to your limp bizkit and kid rock.

Posted byHatchet Wound:
Bsb=BOYS SUCKING BOYS oh yes...did you that in a recent interview, *sit down for this* the backstreet boys refferred to themselves as rock?!?! *shoots self in head* armageddondotcom@hotmail.com

Posted byMy fairies hate you and your crappy pop music:
I'd love to see one of the Backstreet Boys try and out sing Maynard from Tool. Hahaha, that would be a funny sight to see......

Posted byLightRage:
I totally agree with Whatever. Esp. when there IS computer software that 'writes songs FOR you', and BSB id no exception, if they use "Pro Tools"

Posted byRiffer:
I could care less about the rap/pop that my generation is being force fed by a suit behind a big desk. It's all pre-fabricated music that's "in" one second and out the next. "Let's turn on MTV and see what songs we have to like now to be cool!". The trend is dead.

Posted byWhatever:
Laura...the BSB writes about puppy love?...no they don't even write they sing. just beacuse from time to time they add a word or a phrase into the songs their songwriters write for them does NOT make them one. they don't even deserve to have credit given to them. It's not the puppy love that makes me sick, It's the fact that they are selling records due to marketing strategy and good looks this isn't what real music is about. They don't even ahve the talent to play or write their own music while otehr bands that have more musical talent than all of these boybands combined are struggling just to get recognised or get their message across. oh sure some of you might say 'but one of them played thedrums on this one' or 'one of them played the piano and co wrote the song'. this is just one of the marketing strategy to try to shed a positive light on these people. fact is on their first album they went on to become a mainstream success but in it i don't see anyone having credit for song writing or playing any musical instruments? so if they actually knew how to play musical instruments why didnt they start from the beginning? why wait tilll someone criticize them then do it?try to think above the average sheep that they target this stuff upon please. did you actually stop to think taht they mighthave been taught just how to play for that exact song? so when the dust settles they only know how to play just one song. That's more like forced labour not talent.

Posted byRhombus (Nickname):
I totally agree with all that stuff in the review. I hate all this pop and boy band stuff. It's ridiculous! Their fans are really stupid too. I think people should listen to rock music more, because rock stars have real talent.(Except for a lot of Rap Rock). I'm 13 and one of the few people my age who isn't a teenybopper. It's a shame isn't it?

Posted byPOP STAR:
I noticed that the person that is listed as "AJ FAN" only proves that the BSB fans are all little kids who have not got far enough in school to learn how to spell big words like "jealous". Also, its "most talented" not telendest. Finish your Barney videos and Dick and Jane books then let us know about your taste in music. ROYAL7MUSIC.COM!

Posted byArAkYrA:
Great review ! (a wast of time though ) I feel sorry for you to have to listen to that kind of crap, but, It's your work isn't it?

Posted byLishea lvs BSB:
I think that if someone dislikes BSB, they doin't have to cut down the people that do like them. I am going to spend my money on BSB cds, and I WON'T be ashamed to admit it in 3 years!

Posted bynina:
haha but i'm a J.H. girl and the only one who loathes bsb and *nsuck

Posted byREAL MUSIC ISN'T ON top 40 RADIO:
BSB (Backstreet Bitches) write puppy love songs, yeah...well...that is all. There are other bands out there that don't scream or cuss and are still brilliant. In my opinion, sometimes bands that just cuss and write simple lyrics like "I'm mad. I want to break stuff...f**k f**k sh*t," like Limp Bizkit can't compare to the lyricism of Wilco's Jeff Tweedy. Ex: "The ashtray says you've been up all night and you went to bed with your darkest mind." BUY WILCO'S SUMMERTEETH. IT IS PERFECTION. THEN YOU'LL KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOOD POP AND BAD POP. WILCO ISN'T BSB POP, THINK MORE OF THE BEATLES SIDE, WITH GUITARS.

Posted byLightRage:
Laura and STPgirl, we simply don't care for acts.

Posted bySTPgirl:
I agree with Laura. Even though I'm a huge fan of Rock music, what's the big deal in bashing everyone down? Why can't we bash fake people like NSync (I think there is a definite difference b/w them and NSuck. Why can't we just get along.

Posted byLaura:
I think to say that the Backstreet Boys can't be taken seriously as artists is a setback back to 1997 when they first came out. Everyone thought, "Oh yeah, they're just another 'boy band'." What do they have to do to prove themselves? If you don't like pop music that's fine, because I don't like a lot of it either. My point is that if the Backstreet Boys are making a legitimate effort at writing and succeeding at it, why can't people accept that without criticizing their every move? Why is it so bad to write about 'puppy love?' So they don't cuss in their music, is it therefore invalid as music? I think the Backstreet Boys have earned respect and they should get it after breaking away from all these other REAL BOY BANDS.

Posted byINDIE AND BRIT ROCK FOREVER:
On the side note, I'd like to point out that the teenyboppers are an example of what their generation and music have to offer; stupidity. Why? Look at their broken english and misspelling in their rants. Names to mention: A Mad Fan and Hot Diva Girl. Even if Boy Groups write their own music, it is still "muzak." It is elevator music. Elvis at least did some good licks and sing well. By the way, I'd like to see BSB outsing Thom Yorke, oops...sorry...I forgot that you don't listen to intelligent music. =w= WEEZER FORVER!

Posted bySonicYOUTHradiohead:
Uh...Monica...#1. I was decieved by the somewhat macho nature of this site, but the critic didn't bash on the Beatles (real musicians) "1" album. 2. He wasn't saying kiddy things like, "Backstreet Boys are fags." 3. He was being fair by listening to it. 4. He did the review like a real critic should. 5. Face it! Boy groups aren't real musicians, just "jingle" makers. 6. They'll never make an album like Radiohead's brilliant genre bender, "OK COMPUTER," or Blur's "13." Now stop wasting your parents' money on something that you'll be ashamed to admit about in 3 years.

Posted byMonica:
I think you have no right takling about the backstreet boys like that. If you don`t like them just say that and nothing else. Bye

Posted bywestside1150:
'Bullsh*t boys' and 'n'sick' aren't these the same fags, exchanging their make up; ..it's fast...(ridiculous!!) thumbs up, angel!
