Robert Jackson's Personal Jesus starts
off with a title track that bears a somewhat quiet, yet charging riff that
slowly escalates into an angry assault as Robert tells you all the things
that he would do if he, for lack of a better word, could convince anyone
that he was a prophet. The solo isn't bad either. Highlighting
both the good (making crooked politicians all confess) and the bad (ruling
with an iron fist). Indeed much of the album is light-sounding, yet
with dark, lyrical undertones. Such as in "Dead Yuppies on
the Highway" (hey, who wouldn't love to see dead yuppies on the highway?).
The album showcases sarcasm, social commentary (the beautiful "Gunfire
in the Distance" and somewhat spicey "Blood on Their Hands") and towards
the end Robert isn't afraid to liven up the mood with light-hearted introspective
flair ("Alice Linz", "Dreams That Can't be Found") and Robert knows just
the right places to fit some nice solos too.
