Dude, Where’s My Car - Soundtrack
Label: London / Fox Music
Rating:

Tracks:
Stoopid Ass – Grand Theft Audio
Playmate of the Year - Zebrahead
Lighting the Way - Superdrag
I’m Afraid of Britney Spears – LiveonRelease
Authenticity – Harvey Danger
Voodoo Lady – Ween
Listen To The Music – Dangerman
So Cal Loco (Party Like A Rock Star) – Sprung Monkey
We Luv U – Grand Theft Audio
Lunatic – Silt
Sorry About Your Luck – Spy
Bust A Move – Young MC

Oh no! Not another teen flick soundtrack!  Ok, like most soundtracks this one has it’s good and it’s bad.

On the plus side..

  • Grand Theft Audio’s “We Luv U” this is one of the best tracks on the band's debut album, mixing modern rock with industrial really works for these guys. Their other song on this soundtrack, Stoopid Ass may have a wider commercial appeal given the current state of music but “We Luv U” is far superior.
  • LiveonRelease’s “I’m Afraid of Britney Spears” is a new powerpop classic.
  • Superdrag’s Foo Fighters’esq “Lighting the Way” sounds like a hit.
  • Zebrahead’s hit “Playmate of the Year”.
  • Harvey Danger’s “Authenticity” pack a powerful alt-pop punch.
  • Dangerman’s” Listen to the Music” is a virtual grab bag of musical styles from rock to salsa.
  • Silt’s – Lunatic – Good pop-punk fun for the whole family.

On the bad side..

  • Ween’s Voodoo Lady – Maybe if you are as stoned as the characters in the film you’d get it, I don’t.
  • Spy’s “Sorry about your luck” not a bad song per se but it sticks out like a sore thumb in this collection.
  • Young MC’s – Bust a Move – Why did they have to resurrect this song?

The final analysis – a majority of the songs here are strong, unlike most soundtracks where you get artist's throwaway songs and a couple of decent tracks, this disc doesn't skimp on the goods. In fact, this disc may prove more successful than the movie…..  At least we won’t need to ask “Dude, Where’s my hits?”.
