The new shyt sucks. wickerman was the only exception early in the set. Don't waste your money on a ticket where you're gonna hear 3 or 4 good songs and the rest is absolute crap. I was there man! the show sucked bigtime! And that's the truth about it!

Id
I think antiguy touches on a paradox faced by just about all successful older rock bands in that their concerts are going to be fill with primarily the die-hards who want to hear the hits. The problem lies in when the artists realize, like it or not, that that is all they're ever really expected to live up to(the past). Who wouldn't be pissed in having to deal with that kind of crap when until them you were living off your creativity. Evolution is a Bytch plan and simple.

I saw Maiden a few weeks ago in Phoenix. While I was a bit dissapointed that they didn't play a whole lot of old stuff, they still put on a hell of a show. The biggest flaw I found was the songs from "X Factor" and "Virtual IX", two albums which were pretty bad, and almost no one seemed to be familiar with them at all. I didn't mind hearing a lot of stuff from BNW, I figured they'd showcase a lot of that stuff, but I would have at least like to have heard Run to the Hills. The inclusion of "Sanctuary" late in the set was a total shock, and almost totally made up for the lack of other old stuff. To say that you'll never see Maiden again because of this, well, how big of a fan are you? I'll see Maiden again and again, as long as it's Bruce at the helm. As far as US vs Europe, I've had the pleasure of seeing the Waldrock festival a couple of years back, with Mercyful Fate, Immortal, In Flames, SOD, and a slew of other bands in Holland, and I can tell you, you're not gonna see any of those nabds on any US festival tours, like Ozzfest or Family Values or Tatoo the Earth, or any of em. On the other hand, at the Maiden show in Phoenix, Bruce seemed genuinely blown away by the incredible fan reaction. Supposedly Phoenix is the only US city to chant "Maiden. Maiden!" from beginning to end, so we were kinda proud of that. Over all, the show kicked much ass, and I will see them every time they come back.

Iron Maiden did a whole tour last year based on exactly the songs that the fans wanted to hear. How many other bands have done that? What more can you ask from them? This isn't a movie or a Broadway show that you go to once a year and watch the same thing over and over again. This is live music. If you love the old stuff then stay home and watch Live After Death or Maiden England. If you want to see what the band is doing now, then buy a ticket and go. At least Maiden plays their older material live, some bands denounce their earlier recordings and just play what's popular with the masses. Come on people, they're Maiden. Can't you find something better to complain about? Maybe they should stay home and let you go to Ozzfest or some other Mass produced piece of commercial crap.

message to Maidian Europe.. if the U.S. music scene sucks then why do 90% of all bands play here and have bigger tours here? why does Europe whine they cant get alot of U.S import cds you guys so badly want. One is not better than the other, and your talking about 2 different cultures. also BNW is a great cd in this reviewers eyes, but i paid my $16 dollars to hear it. but to pay $40 to jsut hear it live and only 2 count it "TWO" songs from their past that made me a true Maiden fan totally disapointed me to no end. Its not a issue of living in the past, reliving the"80's" blah blah blah because gee how many gold albums were created from their past covers. what song is your favorite that turned you onto maiden? didnt hear mine in concert...didnt even hear number of the beast! we got tracks 1-5 from bnw (here in concert in phx) and then bruce (who i totally respect) strutted around bored and pissed off cause the crowd was confused, bored and even was talking thru the remaining sets. trust me i know cause i was onstage working security. still dont believe me that it was horrible? go into www.edhunter.com their web site and read alot of reviews from true Maiden fans all over and see their comments reviewing the same thing i said here. no one here is living in the past, what has happened is Maiden id forgetting that the past is what got them here today. putit this way, id living in the past is all their doing... i worked SANTANA last night (10/11) and he played songs from the 60's, 70's on up to today and trust me...he didnt rely on his 8 grammy cd to just play on the tracks on it to please the crowd. put it this way... the fans were on their feet from the moment EVERLAST started till Santana went off, and the crowd rocked louder than maiden. anyways im drifting from the topic. in closing it was sad that Halford and Queensryc worked up the crowd supporting the headliners and they in turn (Maiden) put them back to sleep.

MaidenEurope
U.S. music scene sucks more and more! Americans live always in the past. Brave New World is really great record! Better than any lame Panterra or Metallica record. Why you went to see Maiden, if you didn't like BNW??? Europeans and rest of the world understand more Maiden than idiot wankers from U.S.!

nevermind
The biggest waste of 40 bucks I ever spent. I just wish I would have read this before I got screwed by the band.

Ravendude009
HAHA and they wonder why the press gives them a hard time there own fans are doing it too. doesn't that tell them something. I read about this on the message boards on their own site, there are a lot of pissed off Iron Maiden fans out there right now because of this commercialized hey we need to sell our new record tour. It's a shame that they have such distaste for there past and there fans.

Eddie
I'm a Maiden fan and I was really disappointed that they played mostly new stuff. I guess our loyalty to them after all these years doesn't mean shyt. I won't waist another cent seeing this band again.

Mike
I totally agree. Why are they ashamed of their past? Are they ashamed of their past fans? screw them!

Joey Buttafuoco
The show fukking sucked at Irvine. I was there. If they didn't suck then why the hell did everyone leave?

thefallenangel
ok ive been reading your coments and i do not know what you guys are talking about i saw them September 3 in San Antonio here in texas and they ROCKED!!!! the best show ive seen the band was into it, the crowd was into it, nobody left early ,you say ther not playing enough of there older songs on this tour well they played wrathchild, 2 minutes, the trooper, evil that men do, fear of the dark, Number, hallowed, sancutaryi mean come on what more do you guys WANT,they cant just play there old songs they have to blance it out between the old and new ,and the crowd was really into the new songs everybody was singing along to Dream of Mirrors, wickerman, ghost of the navigator the crowd was really treating these songs like the classics there destynd to become i even heard people say they cant wait to see them again ill be there to.

Roger
Tim thats doesn't wash cuz they picked up most of their fans in the 80's. So to do this crap tour after tour will only alienate your fan base like they did to me. They come off like all they are doing is pushing the new record cuz it ain't selling like they used to.

Roger
They did the same damn thing on the Seventh Sun tour. I saw them on every tour from Beast thru that one but after that I never went back and it looks like that was the smart thing to do.

tim
never said there was anything wrong with that. and i never said they didnt have loyal fans. i just said that they may have tryed to hard to look like there stuck in the 80`s. seeing how the attitude is from a lot of people these days. and that is the truth. couldve also been the reason why queens ryche didnt play silent lucidity. because it is branded an 80`s mtvish balled. maybe these bands are a lttle gun shy these days. maybe they want to test the water first before they jump in. if i had a chance to see them, i would jump at the chance. you cant judge a bands live performance on one show or one tour. this is when they need our support the most.

antiGUY
Necrothorn - I am a huge Maiden fan and I loved BNW but I went to this same show to see and hear them play songs from all of their albums not just the new one. And I know I was not alone in this as other post here clearly illustrates. People go to see a band hoping to hear all the songs that made them fans and kept them fans through the years not just one song after another from the current CD. I saw AC/DC the following week and you know what it was one of the best shows I have ever seen. Why? Because they played songs from their entire catalog and even the stuff from the new CD was great. But the show would have sucked if they came out and played Stiff Upper Lip song for song and only played 3 or 4 of the old classics. It's Iron Maiden prerogative to do this, but even if I might like the current CD I will most likely not go see them live again because I want to hear songs from all the CD's not just the latest one. What's wrong with that?
tim

Sorry, not trying to hog the board. But if we treated someone we love like we treated some of these bands they would be hurt, confused and eventually leave. In other words to toss em aside when there no longer in vogue and then pick back up on it cause its gaining popularity again is doing nothing but alienating these bands. they must think americans are shollow a** holes and obviously dont really apreacheate REAL ROCK. Every one seems to jumped on this alternative gen. x thing when it was the hottest trend and now that its pretty much dead they want to go running back to rock. TRY doing that with your wife, would you blame her if she no longer wanted to see you again? I think we as a country need to check our attitudes and priorities. ROCK WILL NEVER DIE BUT AMERICANS MIGHT ALEANATE IT FOR GOOD ONE DAY.

tim
I think they might have been paranoid. Seeing the predudice state of mind in this country toward ANY thing that came out of the 80`s and is straight foward. The band might have been trying to prove somthing and then over compensated for it. It`s hard for a band to put all this together and then worry if they will have to go home early cause they wasted there time here. I blame this generation of americans for setting a bad atmasphere towards real rock. Europe rocks better than we do and always has and always will. And whats pethetic is that rock was born here. This country ought to be ashamed of itself. Especialy this past generation.

Necrothorn
All this carping about Maiden is ridiculous to me. I live in Florida, and I would've given my left bean to see them. I gave BNW a chance and loved it; therefore, I would like to see some of it live. Those who didn't appreciate it probably weren't huge Maiden fans anyway. You can have Korn, Bizkit, Incubus, etc. I'll take bands like Maiden, Halford and Q-Ryche any day.

Accident of Birth
*When=Went, sorry

Accident of Birth
If all the fans that went to the shows also purchased the cd Maiden would've been higher then 40 on the charts. Perhaps maybe if they actually when out and got the cd they would've enjoyed the show more. Actually knowing the material helps a lot. So if anyone should be looked down on it should be the "fans". Who just happened to appear from nowhere once again.

metallica7
yeah but MetalGod and Guido whens the last time other than this year that Maidien has been on tour? i can understand if this is like the 3rd leg of a 2 year tour, yeah playing the covers get old. but they havent been "world wide" in what...ten years? dont get me wrong, im an extreame die hard fan but me as well as others in here were very disappointed. and like me, if you get the offical newletter directly from maiden, they in their owns words were disapointed in their west coast shows from their own mouths! i dunno maybe they were burned out playing all the old covers starting off in Europe and by the time they hit North America they were burned out on them who knows. but to let your fans down here was wrong

MetalGod
I think you're dead wrong on your review. MAIDEN ARE NOT ONLY ABOUT THE PAST!!!! Read this review for a differing opinion http://www.metal-rules.com/ concerts/IronMaiden.htm

Guido
What they band plays is THEIR business. They wrote the songs, they perform the songs, we as fans should go to see them do what they do...and that is...to see them put on the show THEY want us to see. It's selfish to argue oversetlists. If you were in a band you wouldn't want your fans to dictate the setlist. A lot of bands go through this...it's called growing pains. Some fans will leave and some will stay...just a fact of life, deal with it.

metallica7
for fun and as a second income i work concert security for all forms of music here in Arizona and i can say that the reviewer Keavin Wiggins described my feelings excatly for the show here in Phoenix. halford started the frenzy opening and being Phx is his hometown, really lit of the night. Queensryc kept pace and was well withing the mood of the crowd and kept the feeling alive. once Maidian arrived (after a long grandstanding wait) they started out great and then slipped into complete boredom. being a long time fan yeah i can understand not wanting to rely on alot of the old songs but the Irons made it seem that they were bytchy about even playing them. totally was disapointed and yeah quite a few "let down fans" and im talking hard core fully decked out eddie fans were even filing out. sad to say but being gone from the limelight and touring to support their new cd... Maidian is really letting down their fan base, and its gonna show.

Ed
I just simply don't know what happened in Caifornia. I saw Iron Maiden a couple of months ago here in London and it f*ck*n' rocked! There are some great songs in the new album like the wickerman, brave new world, the mercenary to name a few, and absolutely no one walked out early, maybe their attitude was different, maybe the crowd was diferent, maybe they played more classics, I dunno what it was, but you guys don't seem to be talking about the same irons that I saw live on june this year.. At least Bruce has helped metal a lot here, cos rockers here always have to fight to keep their place against pop and dance and all that krap that MTV and most of the media talks about and points to be the things for us to follow. That's all I wanted to say guys..I'm out. Peace!

Motorhead
Ah someone said it! I've been waiting to read this. It's true, it's true. Maiden needs to stop all of the this symphonic rubbish and get back to writing metal songs then people won't mind hearing them live as it is now they are bloody boring and way to long with no balls.

Scott
I was royally ripped off too. Bruce sucks now and his "I don't wanna relive your past either" pissed me off. The truth is Maiden died with Eddie they are not half that band they used to be!

Joey Buttafuoco
The reviewer is right. I was at the Irvine Meadows show and it happened exactly like he said. Maiden played Wrathchild, The Trooper and 2 minutes to midnight and everything else just sucked. As soon as Bruce Dickinson announced the band was gonna play this long ass song called Dream of Minions everybody split. The show sucked. I'll never go see them live again.

King of Nothing
Huh, when they played up here in New England, everyone was rocking...even to the new stuff, and NO ONE left before the end of the show. Guess we all are just smarter. KON

HEADBANGER
HAHAHA I knew I was smart to skip maiden this time. Brave New World sucked why shouldn,t the tour suck too?
