antiGuy's Top 5
This Weeks | Previous
antiGUY gives his top 5 list of music stuff. Could be songs, people, a stupid trend... nothing is sacred to antiGUY

This Weeks Top 5
I normally pick humorous subjects for the Top 5, but with the dawn of the second century of Rock I have had some grave reflections concerning the direction music seems to be heading in. Therefore, I thought it incumbent that I layout my biggest fear for Rock and suggest five ways that it might be stopped.

I fear that if Rock continues on the road that it is on, it will be dead as we know it before too long. As record companies take less chances and only sign artist who are "sure things" the creativity of rock may dry up. I certainly don't want to see this happen so here are my Top 5 suggestions of how to stop Rock from becoming extinct.

Top 5 ways to save Rock from extinction

5. Turn off MTV. Once a vehicle for exploring up and coming artist and their music, MTV has turned into the poster child for commercialism gone haywire. Besides they hardly show any music these days.

4. Don't listen to Top 40 radio. One of the biggest scams in the music industry is Top 40 Radio. The big record companies pay indy promoters to get songs added to Top 40 play list. He with the most money gets the biggest hits.

3. Discover new bands online. Five of my 10 favorite bands I discovered on the net. You won't find them on MTV or on top 40 radio, but their music is a lot better than most you will find in the mainstream.

2. Think for yourselves. Don't let trends dictate what music you listen to or what CD's you buy. Listen to what you enjoy, not what your friends or the media think is "cool". Rip the wheels off the band wagon!

1. Support Indy artist and Labels. It is the Independents that are giving us the best new music these days. While the big labels are busy filling the airwaves with the "latest thing" packaged as 20 different bands. Independent labels are releasing albums from all kinds of artist. No matter what kind of music you are into some of the best new bands can be found on Indy labels.

Ok that's it. I will return the normal humorous nature of the Top 5 next time. Happy New Year everyone!

The best way to save rock from dying is to bury it in the pet cemetary.

i agree these radio stations play the same old commercial crap all day it makes me sick that alot of good artist will never be heard because these big record lables shell out major$$ so that only there artist can be heard meanwile the independant or up and coming artist suffer DOWN COMERCIAL CRAP OOPS IMEAN RAP BRING BACK INDEPENDANT.

PhilRoQ
Brilliant. You hit all the points needed to hit, and the #1 was the most important of all. But, unfortunately, 5. Mtv is never gonna stop. All the poser 'music lovers' will continue to watch Mtv, and wait fore the next band to get a lot of attention from the media. 4. The scam of Top 40 Radio isn't known to much of the world. 3. Dicks like Lars Ulrich. (that should've been numero uno) 2. Most people can't think for themselves. 1. I have nothing to say here.
