who thinks Rage against the machine has sold out????? anyone?

Prozac
I think a big tip that a band has sold out is when they start wearing brand clothes like Nike or Puma. (Korn)

marcus
the foo fighters are the biggest sell out in music to day

ZCOAL
where did they leave carson's brain? is it just me, or is the guy the biggest, doppiest, fathead in town? how did he get on Mtv? boy that guy looks like he has down syndrome, and all these little teen girls think he's hott? whatever!!!

ttamara
The proverbial statement seems to be relevant here : GIVE THE PUBLIC WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR.

15yroldmetalhead
The word "sellout" is unneccesary.

Megatron
Carson must die.

ash
bands are sold out when they care more about being popular and appealing to the public, than making good music and pleasing themselves.

RidahNY
Yo Michael Jackson's Moonwalk at the '83 Grammy's should have been #1 on the VH1 countdown for most important moments in rock on television. Do you all agree?

Basket_case
I love carsons a little prick

green muse
another way to tell if a band has sold out is if their name is one of the following....korn.limp bizkit.metallica.blink182,marilynmanson, ..sorry bout the 2 postings i hit enter by mistake.

A teeny-bopper has entered the building...

Alicia

their master
hmm....seems Daly is the music anti-christ.

dirty old man
What a message board this has become. 'yawn'. Oh, this topic is so friggin stimulating.

Metal Wolf
Well tell the poser to think of an orignianl name insted of copying mine then.

The Real Metal Wolf- Again
yeepers, i guess so, but since i have a peanut for a brain, you can't blame me

Brass Monkey
Metal Wolf thinks he's got us all on lockdown cause he knows about IP #'s. First of all, no one cares about who the real or the fake metal wolf is. This ain't like counterfeit bills or something. No one cares, it ain't like i go to a convenience store with a $20 and the lady say "this is fake you can't buy these doritos." But Metal Wolf, i guess i can see your point - how you are flaming mad about this. Get it - "flaming" mad?

Metal Wolf
Enough said...

Confused
HEY METAL, WHAT'S IP????

The Real Metal Wolf(check IP)
Boy is this getting boring how some posers just seem too think they are insulting me, but they ar enot because I am laughing my ass off because they are proving how weak they are when it comes too insults. Because in my view the poser is the fagget. Be original for once please and proove you have guts and try and isnult me using an original name, but then I guess that some of you would not anyway, just too stupid.

The Real Metal Wolf
Yes guys, i know i suprised you with me being open about my sexuality I really am one and love it when i get turned on by a guy, I would like to say that if anyone is interested in me, please write something in here. I take all cumers :-)

dirty old man
Who Cares?

The Real Metal Wolf
You know what it is funny how some people proove how much they are posers trying too copy my name, it is acutally quite pathetic that they need to impersonate me too insult me. Well I bet that the webmaster can figure out who is who through IP numbers. But I guess the poser who impersonates me did not know that since... I think you all would know.

Metal Wolf
I am a homosexual. Thank you, that is all.

Droog
I like your website, its bitchin. There's one way to solve all this shyt, Don't watch MTV, don't listen to the radio, and don't buy a CD based on how many of your friends have bought it. Buy music based on how it makes you feel. I think that's all that matters. If Britney Spears helps you find fullfilment in your life, that's wonderful. Music shouldn't be about money. But on the other hand, musicians gotta eat to...

I too would would bang any of the 'debbie gibson' clones and then diss them hard. Heck, it would probably add to one's reputation more than anything. Look at crusty old Mick Jagger. He banged all the supermodels and still has the rep of being a bad-ass rock star. Did the Stones' music change while he was on his sex spree? Nope.

Metal Wolf
Well too answer the question, yes, but the thing is if I was in a band known by the music and then all of the fans found out i banged Britany Spears, they would probably think I am still cool it is only if the band changes their soud or sucks up too MTV more that would in my opoinion wreak the bands image and reputation.

The Fake Metal Wolf
OH SHYT! YOU KNOW THIS KID! Heyull Yeayus!! Heyull Jeayu!!! It's my duty to please THAT booty! Anyone who wouldn't is lying or gay, son. Who don't want a pizziece of dat pink? Add Aguilera and Simpson on da pile, and you got yoseyulf one happy muthafizzucka!

RidahNY
I got a question for people in here... "If you were in a band that was taken seriously musically and stayed the way they started out and you had a chance to bang britney spears eventhough it'd ruin your reputation would you still do it?"

The Real Metal Wolf
Quiet now huh, thought so.

The Real Metal Wolf
Isn't funny how these guys need to inpersonate me too try to insult me. Well I am laughing on how this guy who is inpersonating, showing how pathetic he is.

MetalWolf
I blow goats and my music taste stinks

Metal Wolf
Grow up "I'm Back" pick better lines too shyt head.

by my name
carson blows......so does fred durst with his vp schtick

I'm Back
Listen to all you dumbasses saying Fred Durst sold out, he didn't.!!! All of you that hate him and MTV just shut up, no one wanna hear a bunch of girls whine all the time.

Metal Wolf
I am starting to get sick of this MEtallica sell out thing, why don't we get ove rit and move on, most of us know it already we don't need it over and over again.

dirty old man
Sorry, I accidentally hit the damn 'return' key. Anyhow, (1) Change your style of music (see Metallica), (2) change your fashion style (again see Metallica), (3) disrespect the fans (again see Metallica), (4) host a cheesy MTV special (see Mandy Moore, Sisqo), and (5) raise your ticket prices and/or CD prices to an ungodly sum (see most 'major label' acts). In regards to the 'boy bands' and 'debbie gibson' clones, these acts are based on the very premise of selling out. From the first prome appearance for Disneyland to their first appearance on TRL to the very fact that they do not write their own music/ lyrics, 'boy bands and 'debbie gibson' clones are based around the essential model of selling out. Enough said...

dirty old man
C'mon now people, can't we all just get along without attacking our personal tastes in music. In regards to the original question of the top 5 ways a band can sell out here goes: (1)

who cares
F*CK ALL OF U GUYS WHO SAY METALLICA SOLD OUT!!! IM TIRED OF PEOPLE SAYING THAT $HIT. JUST BECAUSE THEY CHANGED THERE MUSIC. WOULD U RATHER BE HEARING THE SAME F*UCKIN STUFF EVERY ALBUM? AND THAT HAIR THING IS SO LAME WHO GIVES A RATS A$$ IF THEY CUT THERE HAIR. DO U THINK THEY REALLY NEED YOUR MONEY THEY DONT CARE TO BE ON MTV, THEY NEVER HAVE.

TiCaL
is this meant to be funny? cos its not

Where's Cat
Cat I need some sell-out lovin'"

Metal Wolf
You know why i call myself Wolf RidahNY? Because metal is my favorite music and wolf is my favorite animal. But I guess you did not know that since you are just as much as a preacher telling me what to say and what not too say. I got a right to blabber on. But you are right about one thing, the music world in the year 2000 is crapper music except for the comeback of rock legends.Like I said over and over I can care less what you or your band are doing with your so called rock band. The point is every band is different and they all take different steps to getting up. I may not know that much about but you think that stops me from speaking my mind, no! Infact I am going too keep on badgering too people who think they are wise and think they know it all about music(like you). You want to know why I talk of BSBV and NCYNC because they are ripping people off but I am not going to on and on about it. But maybe your wise ass will learn someday or youw ill just be stuck int he clubs while these teeny bopers are making more money. So you can take your wise remarks and shove it because frankly I can care less about what you think of me. Oh yeah I was a fan of Metallica but I am not anymore. And no I do not have one album, in fact I have all their albums, because I was loyal, but nevermind. You are probably going to twist that up too are you?

name withheld
You ever turn on the radio or MTV and hear a 'hit'song by someone who can't sing or play an instrument? Or who write fake lyrics and music that doesn't move you? Or they have some stupid costume on? They come out of nowhere and have a number one hit song, and you've never heard of them. Or they're a band you USED to know who didn't sell a lot of records but you thought they were cool before you saw their 'new' look or heard their 'new' sound. They're supposed to be the Next Big Thing, but everyone you know hates them. You ask yourself, and I quote, 'Who Buys This $hi+?' If this has ever happened to you, then you KNOW what a sellout is.

AtomicPunk1977
There is no such thing as a "sell out" band. There is only a scale of popularity/success. "Selling out" is just a misconception.

Lex Luther
Hey Guys "Metal Wolf & RidahNY" guys let's call a truce to your badgering. Listen there will always be "Boy Bands" there are ten more one the way right now. Once a band get's in the top 40 it's over for integrity. We oursleves sell out bands, we are responsible for making them or breaking them.

Lex Luther
Hey Guys "Metal Wolf & RidahNY" guys let's call a truce to your badgering. Listen there will always unfortunately be "

Catherine Dapra
There is way too much teen angst in this place... (Maybe too much). If all ya need is some sweet lovin' to calm you down, all you have to do is call Cat, she'll help you out! ;) But let me get this straight, if a band sells out, they get their music listened to by a larger audience... I wonder what band out there is like "Money is bad, I don't want any, and I don't want a lot of people to hear my music. I only want people near me to be able to enjoy what I do, not a lot of people, because that sucks." Is that what selling out is? I know how much bands love living off cheese sandwiches and sleeping in sleeping bags, but maybe, just maybe they had a dream to be famous one day, and have a lot of people listen to their music? Well, that's just what Cat thinks, see ya later boyz. We out!

RidahNY
MetalWolf apparently is so worried about BSB and NSYNC that he is relentlessly posting idiotic comments about how they don't "work hard to get famous" or whatever blabber he's trying to put across. We got some fool that owns an old Metallica album or something and thinks he's a "metalwolf." He claims that he doesn't care about what i play and my band but yet he's trying to preach to me how hard it is to get noticed in the rock clubs and venues. That's like telling the garbageman telling the millionaire how to make money. So let me put it to you simply, i know from experience, you know from guessing and reading Metal Edge. You can't do anything about your ignorance unless you get up, learn how to play and get out there yourself but then again, that would take effort. You'd probably just rather sit there and type and complain posting a bunch of generalized crap you guess to be true about the business. Maybe one day you'll see that you don't know everything. In fact, you know very little - close to nothing actually.

dougman999
I totally HATE Carson Daly. He is a perfect example of everything wrong in a person. The worst thing is is when he calls something 'sick'. Whoever came up with that term (in that context, i.e. 'cool') should be shot in the face, along with Carson.

pipboy100
Regarding some of the posts further down the list about Napster and the music industry being ripped off and there needing to be new ways of making money, well, why don't the bands just put multimedia on their albums? That way, even if you download the songs off of Napster, then you still wouldn't be getting the WHOLE album, just the music portion.

dirty old man
'Selling Out' occurs when you stop having respect for your old fans and start having having any resport for the corporate rock world. The biggest and most example of selling out that I have seen is the case of the Offspring. A long time ago, in an indie galaxy far far away, there was a band on an indie label called the Offspring. The lead singer used to strut around onstage in a t-shirt that simply read 'Corporate Rock sucks'. Then, he signed to a major label an became the world's biggest hypocrite.

Metal Wolf
You think I care what you can play? No! You worthless opoinion of saying that Backstreet Boys work hard, you ar ejust like I said a pop follower. And as for hard work? Who says you are the only rock band around. See lets look at the life of a boy band they gather guys up make them look pretty then make a album and a song and boom they are like NSYNC, now all they need to do is dance every day, oh that is hard huh. When a rock band takes a long time to get famous like I said. In my view I can care less about your band and what you do.But the fact of that matter is that pop is the easiest music to make and and rock music is the hardest. And you can't tell me too shut because for one thing if there is one thing we do not need, it is you saying that BSB and NSYNC is better because they suck. And I believe everyone would agree with me. I would like you to ask all the people who come here all the time too speak their mind and ask them who works harder, boy bands(your choise) or rock band( definitly my choise). So wake up smell the coffee. And stay on topic idiot.

Lex Luther
You sell out if you sign a deal to Lou Perlman's label. That Fat F*ck. And if you cut your hair. Well no I take that back. No I got it, if you get an endorsement from TAMMY HillBigger, or Calvin the Calhoun pedophile.

RidahNY
hey Metal Wolf you wanna talk trash on what i think and act like i don't know about rock music. I can play "eruption" and "spanish fly" on guitar so don't go preaching to me about MTV and crap i could care less about. oh yeah, i'm out there in the rock clubs playing to audiences and i know how much work it takes to keep a band together and to perform so you keep your worthless opinions to yourself punk.
