RidahNY! Wake up call! MTV plays only this pop slop, and now they know that many people do not like this, MTV spends so much time trying to promote bands NSYNC and BSB, of course they are going to kiss their butts and brag that NCYNC and BSB work hard.Come on, many rock work harder than them, example, well lets go and see that it takes BSB one song to get too the top, it tkaes a long time for a rock band to get noticed, you want to know why? Because MTV loves these teeny bopers because they give MTV ratings, and millions of clueless dumb girly fans. Before you know it there willb e another wave of boy bands. And these boy bands do not even write their own music, all they do is listen too their record company and play the song they tell them too and teach them how to do everything, allt hey need to do is get on the stage every day and dance and show off their cute faces, in my view any man can do it, you get a fat slob from Atlantic City and make him lose weight, then teach him how to dance and then get other fat slops and do the same process, give them make up and give them a song to dance too and the they go and make their first video, and people will love it.In my view the music taste of today sucks.

RidahNY
yo this ain't strictly a rock website kid. i like the rock and he is a good wrestler but this is a music site - not a wrestling web site. and by the way, why don't you people ever give credit to NSYNC or BSB? they are good at what they do and work hard to get their dance steps right for their tours. i was watching mtv the other night and it showed just how hard they actually do work.please people, do like was done to elvis in the 50's, 60's and 70's - give credit where credit is due. oh yeah and stop complaining!

Catherine Dapra
This forum is for Rock! I SMELL WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKING! The Rock is the bomb. He just recorded a hot track with Wyclef and Method Man, true masters of the genre! I wish they would show the video more on Mtv, which has too many long hairs nowadays. I totally agree with you guys, though. THE ROCK RULEZ! We out, peace in 2K.

Metal Wolf
Look MTV only plays pop music and that is it, this web site is for rock, a rock web site. Meaning everyone here hates pop and therefore everyone here hates pop, espacially those so called "artists" BSB and NCYNC and the list goes on, they are no artists they are just 5 pretty faces who do what the corparate people tell them to do.And in my view music should not be considered art or the band known and artists, it's called music.

RidahNY
yo i ain't gonna lie, i like Led Zep, Rage against the machine, GNR, old VH etc. I like real rock music and play in a band that is working it's way up the music scene in Manhattan but to be honest with you, i don't mind britney spears and christina aguilera or even BSB or NSYNC. I like watching tv with good looking people on there, i love watching christina and britney work it and i'd rather watch them then led zep and the other bands i listen to. And as far as BSB and NSYNC go, they always got hot girls in their videos so i just put the sound on mute and watch the girls walk around and look hot. MTV does have a purpose - you just gotta be open minded like me and not worry about unimportant stuff like "art" and "intergrity."

definition of sell out----------- metallica, limp bizkit , vanilla ice, bsb, korn

Delerium
It's kind of hard to add to this bunch of babble.. sellout is a word that needs to be put in the dictionary so people stop flinging it around where it's not supposed to be.

Dragon Xero
I see people on here saying Nirvana had sold out, just because they were on MTV a lot. So what? They became popular! Kurt never stopped writing songs for himself, to express his artistic freedom. He did songs for himself and his fans, not for the record compaines or money. Do you want every band to stay off MTV? Do you want every band to forever be obscured and poor? MTV used to be the hub of popular musical interest, but it's become a disgusting pop circus. The only band that became a sellout because it was on MTV was Metallica because Cliff Burton said "Metallica will never do a video". That's breaking integrity. Screw you people who say that Nirvana sold out because there were Nirvana videos on MTV. Did Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, and RATM sell out when THEY made MTV videos? No, a few of them sold out LATER.

Metal Wolf
I heard Pantera' old music and they wer enot that bad but at least changing their music did not piss off their fan and it was better than their old stuff, and anyway none of those old 80s albums were major because they never got a real good record deal.

Metal Militia
Talk about sell out... listen to Pantera's 80s albums and then listen to Pantera's 90s albums. They're so ashamed of their 80s albums that they don't even distribute them anymore

TIBAZ

The number one sellout is Foo Fighters. After all the years with Kurt Cobain it seems they would have been beyond obvious propaganda "message" videos and just rock but no.I'm sorry Kurt is gone but i'm glad he doesn't have to see this.Rock not propaganda.

Now let me tell you how Metallica has metallica sold jus tlike I have been saying (#5) Well isn't funny that all the time that everytime Metallica makes a new album MTV is all over it. And that out of all the Metal bands, Metallica is the one Carson Daily talks too the most.Coinidence?(#4)Well if everytime Metallica has a Metallica TV, Carson Daily is hosting it and kissing up too Metallica saying that they are the so called "Most loudest band in the world" which is an utter lie.(#3)Well it seems no understands, let me tell you. Kill'em All- And Justice For All was fast and heavy. But when Bob Rock came around he turned Metallica too MTV butt kissing guys who are hard and slow.See you may say that bands need to change. But like I said before that they can change every album but they should keep their sound the same, example would be Pantera. When you hear every album, it is the same but different another way, either in the lyrics or the way the singer sings the tune but if you look at them both you know they are both Pantera. That is what Metallica did from their first album too their first too the forth. And hten they changed their sound which pissed off their fans and kept their sound from then too now. And now many fans say they sold out. If they kept their sound like from their 80s work, everyone would be happy.(#2) Well do you find it weird that Metallica never really needed MTV to be famous, they only had one music video in the 80s and that did not do very well on MTV.But I find it funny that int he 90s they have so many music videos that I can not even count, these guys make at least 4 music videos for each album. And they are all praised like a shrine on MTV.But none of them got number one, except Unitl It Sleeps, and maybe I Disapear(sorry i do not watch MTV no more).(#1) Well after all I said, you figure it out.

hello
metallica DIDN'T sellout korn DIDN'T sellout limp bizkit DIDN'T sellout BUT MR. FAT BASTARD HIMSELF FRED DURST DID HE'S A LOOSER

metal fan
top 5 sellouts FRED DURST FRED DURST FRED DURST FRED DURST FRED DURST NOW HE IS THE BIGGEST SELLOUT THERE IS TODAY HE'S A GREEDY WANNABE BLACK RAPPER

MasterOfPuppetz
OK, PLEASE STOP SAYING THE USUAL BS ABOUT THE METALLICA vs NAPSTER deal, ITS SO SIMPLE WHATS RIGHT AND WHATS WRONG, GETING SOMETHING FOR FREE WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF THE PERSON WHO MADE IT IS WRONG, ITS A SIMPLE FACT, THE ARGUMENT ENDS THERE, NAPSTER FANS PLEASE STOP PISSING AND MOANING AND GET A LIFE NAPSTER IS NOT THAT IMPORTANT AND YOU NEED TO RELIZE THAT THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE DONT CARE ABOUT THE NAPSTER ThiNG BECASE ITS NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL, THERE IS LIFE WITHOUT NAPSTER

just a grrl
I thik it is a shame that MTV is now only for "kids" who listen to bubblegum music like Backstreet Boys & Christina Aguilera. I miss the days when you could turn on MTV & see real music videos by serious artists. Now if a band's video is on

someone
I think that MTV single-handedly has destroyed music. In the days of what we now call classic rock, it was all about albums, not singles. Albums were like pieces of art, with the covers and the way the tracks all led into one another. Bands like Led Zeppelin, who never had a single reach higher than #4 (and that was "Whole Lotta Love"), and who rarely did interviews, would sell millions of albums because people liked their music as a whole, and how the band was innovating and willing to try anything regardless of what critics said and how many albums they sold. People couldn't wait to see what they would do next. No one is innovating right now, it's all the same b.s. Artists (if you can call them that) are only trying to be the next big thing. It really upsets me that we will never have another Beatles or Zeppelin, or even The Who. Now it's all about image and how many interviews you do and if you have a number one single. MTV used to play really out there stuff and I loved that. Now you turn it on and it's nothing but Britney and all that pop trash. Where are our leaders- people like John Lennon and Cobain and even 2Pac who spoke from their souls. Who gives a s**t about record sales? We need a band that we can look up to, that speak for our generation. I'm sick of the one hit wonders and sell outs. It's time for some band to rise above all that and start a revolution. When my kids ask me 15 years from now what kind of music I listened to when I was growing up, I wanna be able to play them good stuff. Music is art that should remain timeless. Prime example- The Velvet Underground. One of the most innovative pre-punk bands ever. They got no radio airplay. But they have a large fan base, even today. SO QUIT WATCHING MTV! START PROTESTING! I DON'T KNOW ABOUT EVERYONE ELSE, BUT I WANT THE SH*T OFF THE AIR!

Significant Other
Man f* the people that say Fred Durst and Limp Bizkit sold out. The only reason why your bands aren't on MTV and have made it big is because they $ucked too much.

#6 way to tell if your band sold out: Your band name is CREED.

rudy
you hit the it right on the nose!

jrotis@mrpink.net
Whose Carson Daly?

ZOMBIE
Mettalica is a bunch of sellouts, they don't say F*** MTV, it's the opposite, the lead singer is doing MTV news. Metallica is a bunch of sellouts, get your facts straight.

brisy
their wardrobe is grossly lost somewhere between hiphop and teeny-bopper

WEED
HIVE I AGREE WITH YOU FAT PIG DURST IS A BIG SELL OUT AND TENNIEBOPPERS AND FAGS ONLY LISTEN TO HIS LAME MUSIC

HIVE
FRED DURST IS THE BIGGEST SELL OUT THERE IS TODAY THE FAT PIG IS SO FULL OF HIMSELF. I RATHER WATCH BSB VIDEO THAN WATCH FAT DURST ON T.V.

drake
well lenky i hate to point out that you're a moron. Metallica did NOT sell out with S&M. S&M is the ultimate way to take rock/metal to a new level, and all REAL rock music fans really enjoyed the mix. The symphony really added a new dimension to the music. As to Napster, yeah well thats stupid, but get over it. Sellouts are those who care about ratings, and Metallica's attitude from the start has been "screw MTV and Billboard"

mule_man98@yahoo.com
if they're called foo fighters

lenky
how about if you go soft, realize your washed up and decide to make your some money by remixing and sueing a mp3 provider

ShroomDevil
oh yeah... i really don't consider the goo goo dolls to be sellouts. Maybe I'm wrong, but read the lyrics spinjen... the ones that aren't referring to love (which are a majority of the songs, hence "dizzy up the girl") remain true to the style of their lyrics... .honest.... i thought the new album was all right. Nirvana did Polly, and Something in the Way, Dumb all as acoustic ballads. That doesn't make nirvana a sellout...

ShroomDevil
All in all, everybody is proved wrong and nothing is accomplished. Anybody with an image is a sellout... pure and simple. Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder, wore normal clothes and were normal people. They made videos to touch a larger audience. They didn't lie about anything or anyone. Do you think Jonathan Davis is all depressed like his image declares him? Bulls**t. He sings about his parent-lacking life, when really his dad just was off on business a lot. Poser. Do you think bands like Slipknot walk around in masks all the time? No. It's their image. All music is is listening to another person's ideas/soul. These people aren't supposed to be celebrities. They're no better than anyone else in the world. I write songs on my acoustic... why don't we all make a poster of me and coffee mugs and toasters of me. It makes no sense. The music world is f**ked up beyond anything, and everyone wonders why kids are constantly finding underground bands to get into. Because it's just the fad? Nah... music is honesty, and honesty is just getting harder to find. I've said my piece... sorry for taking your time. - derek59@excite.com

spinjen
Now that I think about it, I'm surprised most of the acts that appear on TRL haven't given head to Carson Daly on air.

spinjen
BIGGEST EXAMPLE OF A SELLOUT BAND:
GOO GOO DOLLS!

They have a hit with an out-of-left-field acoustic ballad, go on record saying you only record ONE ballad per album, then for the follow up, write 4 versions of aforementioned hit, and leave all semblance of their old selves buried in album track oblivion. (Notice "Iris" was a HUGE hit, yet people ignored "Dizzy", a much better song, if you ask me)
They're sellouts in the most literal sense. Sugar Ray is the other band.

SubXavier
Thank you, Death, for accentuating my point.

Death
People who say Metallica are greedy and sellouts obviously know what sh*t is: They're a$$holes. It ain't about money, it's about respect. I don't know what truly defines a sellout, but it ain't sound changes. If no band changed their sound, they'd be sounding like broken records and people would be sick of them awfully fast. For example: Britney Spears. That 'ho has the same bass line on every song and she's worn out her welcome, except to guys who are aroused by fake breasts and fake tans and tons amongst tons of make up. Trust me there are many men who are still in love with those concepts. Sellouts are truly hard to define, cause many people have so many views. Metallica and Dr. Dre aren't sellouts - they're smart. These statements may start a bit of a flame war, but who am I to care? I'm Death. Sporker and all the other loyal Metallifans rock. Let's keep it that way.

SubXavier
Then the whole definition of a sell-out, making music purely to make money, is a total oxymoron, then? The reason the pop groups are made is to be popular and make money, albeit for the record companies at first, but sooner or later for the band themselves. But if people are enjoying the music, they aren't sell-outs? Hmm... that sounds kind of contradictory to me.
