I want to know what happened to heavy metal bands, and why no guitarist have solos. I think that sucks.

Posted bysweepypesterknock:
rock music is like dinner. you cant eat the same thing every night or youll throw up on your mom or something. things have to change and the bad tasting things will get thrown out.

Posted bymindskrew:
I can think of a really good band that has a chubby bald guy as a singer and the bass player hangs his bass reaally low. CROWBAR. THeyve been aroud for quite some time and have never gotten the recognition they deserve. As fo rthe tattoos, well. If you got them a d they mean something, cool, If you got them because it was cool to do, not cool.

Posted byRepo Man:
To all you people who defend Roadrunner and say they haven't gone corporate: 1. They recently merged with Island Records not too long ago! 2. One word: Nickelback. Another bland watered-down corporate Seattle knock-off.

Posted bydead:
It would probably help to get a chubby, bald singer and a bass owner that hangs his bass 6 inches from the ground and then tries to play it. Oh, and at least someone should have both arms covered in tattoos.

BK, Dude, youre arent missing a thing with Glassjaw. I bought the first album at a pawn shop, it was the worst $4.50 id ever spent. I coulda eaten tacos for a week at taco hell for a week on that dough. NO its not a big loss. If your having trouble finding good rock anymore, im telling you the place to look is in Europe. Nuclear Blast, MEtal Blade, Earache, Lifeforce, Relapse(i know its US bu some of the bands are european). The bands exist, it just takes a bit of searching.

Posted byBUTCH (the non-imposter, i think):
Look, I have been stone drunk for the last week and don't remember most of what I've done in that time, but I do know that I didn't post that comment right below this post about new order. Im sure no cares but I do. and its really not all that important considering what was said. but a principle is a principle, and posting under someone elses name is wrong and dumb. so who ever posted under my name is a pee head. Then again, maybe i did post that. i don't know. give me a drink.

Posted byBUTCH:
new order rule! how dare you!

Posted byslash:
you forgot orgy's cover of blue monday by new order.

Posted byBK:
Granted,I've only heard one Glassjaw song, but it doesn't seem like that big of a loss.

Posted byRR Sucks!:
ha ha Roadrunner just lost another band, Glassjaw! rr is a total sell out.

Posted byyour mother:
this is soo true its HILARIOUS! nice job!

Posted byGabitsch:
It helps to get your artist to donate a song to Microsoft for use on X-Box games. Again, the operative word here is "donate," as no one will get paid for it. But hey, it's exposure, right? Besides, Microsoft had to save all that money to give to Madonna for using "Ray of Light" in their XP commercials.

Posted byGREENMUSE:
dont forget to add a arbitrary number after a word.ie:matchbox20,blink182,sum41,primer55,etc etc ad nauseum.

Posted byme is clever:
hello all.i have made a miraculous discovery.if you "create" a band with a word from any one of the following topics included here in the title,it will suceed on one level or another.here they are: Anger Death Disease "ma bitch" and any other words from the grand dictionary of "faux black people talk".ta ta p.s make sure to include some abbreaviations or add a "Z" where ever you please.

Posted bySubXavier:
*tries to decipher the name* Rock is Shboxt. Hmm. Profound.

Posted byRock is Sh?t:
My name says it all.

Posted bythe goddess trog:
The blue whale does not like the whip, but Roadrunner does suck. THEY SOLD OUT WHEN SLIPKNOT TOOK MY KEY. They been stealin my bass tabs since 1976. I created some of the best solos ever to be played on a harp and those slacker fools used them to roll cigarettes. I HATE THE MASKS. That will be their real faces if I don't get my key back. THE CAT HATES YOU. CHER HATES YOU. Damn, she's big. Fresh on.

Posted byDoyle:
Hey try reading my first message again, I was quoting the band's liner notes FROM THE NEW ALBUM!

Posted bypick:
Doyle, I am a huge Misfits fan. I think you are remembering their troubles with Geffen, no RR. In fact, The Misfits released an album through RR a month ago, and they have only been with the label for a couple of years.

Posted byDoyle:
Pick you obviously are not a misfits fan or you would know the band has been fighting with RR for a few years to get out of that contract. Read the liner notes to their new CD it tells it all. "Pushead's 'The Wave' is featured on the cover of this compilation as it is the release of this cd that has enabled the Misfits to bid farewell to their contractural obligations to Roadrunner Records. The unmistakably Pus'ed out ghouls wave a fiendish goodbye to label executives and the band's long requested termination of their recording contract is finally at hand." RR did absolutely no promotion for them. Stop listing bands that were signed to RR over a couple years ago to defend them! Even if these bands wanted to leave they couldn't cuz they are under contract! I have to agree that they lost their vision and mission and got caught up in trying to rip off the scene they created. Gone are the days they bring out daring new bands now they are busy trying to round up bands that copy the originals!

Posted byGREENMUSE:
im with antiguy on this one, roadrunner has gotten to the point of sometimes i wonder if its really a joke label, and someday they will go"surprise! we dont really exist, and niether does our crap roster of bands"*greenmuse quickly dons his asbestos underwear, and braces for the attacks*

Posted bygitana:
Ok, I admit, I know nothing about RR. But to touch on the point from Max about the whole hip hop BS. Used to be good music. USED TO. Now it all gets on my damn nerves. The repeated "beats" and the two lyrics in the whole "song" said over and over and over, and everyone "featuring" someone else.... As for TRL, I don't have cable, don't want it so luckily for me, I don't have to put up with that joke of a station

Posted byMindskrew:
Metal: In the strictest sense, can be found in plentiful supply across the Atlantic. England, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany...Those countries are responsible for some of the most cutting edge metal groups to ever arise. Anything from Iron Maiden to Meshuggah, and all points in between.

Posted bymoshmfer:
This article is nothing but a bashing of modern metal (nu-metal if so inclined).Made obvious by #1,an uneducated bashing of RoadRunner.I don't see how Slipknot and Nickleback are even remotely similar for instance.RoadRunner is just a favorite target for those that can't handle or accept modern metal.People that are around ten years behind everyone else.Ten years from now when the current phase of metal has moved on,they will catch up to it and be telling us how kickass it was.

Posted byBUTCH:
funny funny funny and on the money. SUGGESTION: in order to boost sales CD's should be packaged with a sinle slice of hard unchewable bubblegum. Just like baseball cards. That way you can listen to music that blows while you blow bubbles w/your gum. Shyt, the gum will have more value than the music. Sad. But oh so funny and true. BARF SPIT PUKE

Posted byPeople=Sh*t:
Hey pick, don't forget about Spineshank too. They kick a$$ and they sound way different from Slipknot too.

Posted bypick:
Okay, if Roadrunner sucks so bad and no one can tolerate it anymore, then how come Type O, The Misfits, Slipknot, Fear Factory, Machine Head, Soulfly and a vast array of respectable bands haven't left the label. RR isn't so bad when you think what bands they have and used to employ. You can listen to a lot worse music than that of RR artists.

Posted byPeople=Sh*t:
Did anybody else hear about Limp Bizkit's remix album? What a load of sh*t. Just when I thought FD couldn't get any worse their he goes again. And their calling this a rock/rap remix album, when all I've heard is all rap in the remix. It sounds like all they did was completely take out the guitar and tune down the drums and add more rap beats to slow it down. There's no rock on the album at all. Just another reason why Wes left. If they are going to make new records like this, they might as well not get a new guitar player. In fact, they should just do us all a favor and give it up.

Posted byRuPunkenuf:
Pop Punk Is Pissing Me Off, its not punk, just damn annoying rock without a message. Every song is about some relationship. Where have the real punk bands gone. Oh wait, I found a few, Ann Beretta, Strife and Strike Anywhere. Strife recently reunited after a 3 year hiatus. Keep the scene alive. Jerry at yellow ink records http://www.yellowinkrecords.com

Posted byMindskrew:
Recall RR good days, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Type O Negative, yada yada. Yea The majority of music that theyre signing right now are crap, but think about it. The majority of "metal music" right now IS crap. ITs all rehashed, and prefabricated. Nothing truly original. I do however dig Chimaira, but ive dug them since 99 when this present darkness came out on ECE(i think) Records. Obituary, Nailbomb, Deicide, Six Feet Under(the new one wasn't all that good). For a good exposure to metal, try lookin towards Nuclear Blast or Some underground record labels, Lifeforce Records, Hydra HEad Records, Revelation Records...THe list goes on. All it takes is a little looking. Im out peoples

Posted byaustin:
"RR used to be cool" You guys are just pathetic.....i see no reason to continue reading the crap you spew out.

Posted bySoul Suckin Jerk:
Pick...there's a reason that "no other label wants those bands." they suck. There's nothing intrinsicly good about signing a band to a label. Besides, i highly doubt that RR is playing the good samaritan...signing bands just because they feel sorry for them. However, if you're right and they are doing this...RR is smoking crack.

Posted bypick:
Roadrunner is still the coolest label out there. How many music companies are willing to go bankrupt and have their bands play small venues in order to reach the fans? While some RR bands sound alike, has it ever occurred to people that the only reason for RR signing these "copycat" artists is the simple fact that no other label wants those bands. I truly feel sorry for Roadrunner; they got their proverbial ass kicked by dominant record groups more concerned with marketing than the fans.

Posted byhe he:
I gotta say I agree about road runner they used to be a cool cutting edge label but ever since slipknot went platinum all they do is put out new bands that sound just like them fear factory or coal chamber. well they are part of a major label now so it's no wonder.

Posted byroosterchick:
i completely agree with rich. that's kind of sad, that internal-record-label copying of bands thing. well it doesn't really matter, because there are bound to be plenty of record labels who use the follow the leader technique and thus copy roadrunner hoping to achieve the same success. and of course, they probably will. and they'll spawn even more copycats. since unfortunately mtv and whatnot has liquified my peers' brains into buying into any trend, this should be surprisingly easy. talk about sad but true, no wonder you people are always badmouthing 14 year olds like me all the time. but anyways i agree with you completely on this one, ag, thanks for reiterating the fred durst thing, haha. ive got another suggestion for a cover, how about jay-z or one of those rappers does one of "like a virgin"? now that i'd like to see.

Posted byPeople=Sh*t:
Yea Fever, that's what I'm talking about.

Posted byDr Fever:
Jeff, Roadrunner USED to be cool. Now, they're a joke. They sold out. BUT, nothing changes the fact that the OLD RR releases still whip the blue whales ass with a barstool.

Posted byUnforgiven:
I hate Limp Bizkit & Fred Durst as much as the next guy, but come on enough is enough. This site used to be cool but now you guys have used the Limp Bizkit sucks thing way too much. You Killed It.

Posted byPeople=Sh*t:
I'll give him credit for being a homo. He markets to 12 year old girls.

Posted byIsilika:
Oh my god.. yeah. Point out Fred. The man is a marketing genius. Give him credit.

Posted byBob:
you man screw Roadrunner those jerks dropped the Step Kings. They used to be cool and innovative but once Slipknot made it they tried to milk it by getting a bunch of nockoffs. One Slipknot is ok but a whole label of em, give me a break.

Posted byPeople=Sh*t:
I pretty much agree with everything except for the Roadrunner comment. They have brought about a new sound for rock/metal. Sure, some of their newer bands may sound like their other bands, but if that's what the audience likes, then why not give it to them. Peace out.

Posted byMax:
not as funny as the hip-hop one but some good points made. it's scary cuz this stuff is plausable especially the coversong thing. just what we need a punkpop cover of mickey and how much you wanna bet it will be no1 on trl.

Posted bySubXavier:
Not anything we didn't already know... but amusing nonetheless.

Posted byRich:
Yeah I agree on most of this. Road Runner used to be cool but I know what Anti Guys means. Just look at there new bands from the past 2 years, most are ripoffs of the bands that were already on that label. ill nino, killswitch engage Anyone Chimaira Dislocated Styles Sinch the list goes on. BTW Biohazard, The Misfits and Sepultura have all left road runner cuz they are too focused on new metal. yeah and all these commercials with past hits piss me off too just look at Marvin Gays whats going on that was a song he wrote about what was screwed up in the world you think he'd want to hear it used to sell electronic stuff for radio shack? hell no he wouldn't! yeah rock has gotten way too corporate and i don't see it getting any better anytime soon.

Posted byjeff:
well i guess this solves everything. just get rid roadrunner records and the world's a better place. i mean, by them having bands like obituary, dry kill logic, nailbomb, fear factory, decide and sepultura, just to name a few, they sure are flooding the market with "mall-core" music. (if anyone missed the sarcasm, try reading it again)
