myself. Never sell out, never have kids, never turn into a fat old lady
who watches soap operas. Contrary to popular beliefe, a person does *not*
have to have an amazing voice to sound good on an album. Just as long as
a "singer" can make some kind of vocal sound, there's a way to toutch it
up and make it sound fantastic. I'm all for tweaking the small things,
but when every single element somehow involved a computer or a synthesizer,
that's just ridiculous. Plus, acts like Britney Spears manage to fool their
fans into thinking they're getting a live show, when in fact, Britney Spears
lip-synchs her "live" acts. Go figure.

"real" music of the heyday? Please! It was called RHYTHM&BLUES but
was "too black" for mainstream society to stomach, so they bleached it
and called it rock and roll. Even the word "rock and roll" is pop-culture
fluff, it was originally southern slang for having sex, but it sounded
wayyyyy "too cool" to not turn it into a commercial tool. And all the rock
bands of the heavy 60s and 70s are considered the waered down version of
roots rock - the Boy Bands of Rock and roll, no matter how "hard" they
looked. If you own anything other then worn out 45s of Lead Belly and
other real architects of modern music, youre as much a media "pop-culture"
whore as your SUV-driving Soccer Moms driving lil Felicity to a BSB concert.

Lopez lacks the talent of being a "grade A" actress of singer, and I too
have had my moments of disbelief with how popular she is. But I can't deny
the fact that she is a beautiful woman who has used her beauty and her
talent for dancing (which we can't take away from her) to become the star
she has become. Granted it may be short lived, but who are we to judge
her? I don't believe she is trying to "scam" anyone to watch her movies
or buy her music, people do it anyway. I have recently seen her on the
cover of several magazines, and I can say she is not out of place their.
She is a beautiful woman with a beautiful body and although that may be
what made her famous, it is now her career and she is doing what she needs
to do to keep it going. Those of us who are not famous work hard every
day to excel in our jobs, get promoted and become recognized the only difference
is we are not be scrutinized by the entire world as we do it.

these days. With precious few exceptions, if one isn't some low-brow, stupid,
shallow, generic, soulless music act, then all the radios, MTV's, VH1's,
and record companies don't consider them to have "hit" potential. I have
started listening to a lot of underground and alternative music these days
from Phish, Aimee Mann, Bob Mould, Ike Reilly, Fugazi, and my personally
favorite modern act, Days of the New. Days of the New is essentially a
one-man act, Travis Meeks, whom was a post-grundge wannabe at first, but
now is a musical genius. He's around the same age as Britney Spears, yet
has more talent in his pinky fingernail than Britney has in her whole being.
He earned it too. He spends so much of his time in his home, putting stuff
together, when others would be doing photo shoots instead. There is some
good mainstream stuff. U2, Dave Matthews Band, Train, Matchox 20, Lifehouse,
Nine Days (so what if they're pop-rock. They still have good musicianship,
thoughtful lyrics, meaningful messages, and some times you've gotta be
happy). You want to know what's really funny about all this? The music
industry is suffering a financial collapse...and claiming that internet
piracy is the main culprit. Bono said it best, "When tape cassetes first
came out, people said that they were destroying the music industry, when
really it was just crap music that was destroying the music industry."
Brilliantly said. The industry itself won't be around for much longer though.
Aimee Mann and husband, Michael Penn have started something called United
Musicians which allows independant artists to pay an initial fee for distribution
of their albums, plus a percentage based on sales, for promotion and publicity.
It's basically the same as the music industry except that the artist has
full copyright control of their music and has a greater revenue from each
album sold. It's what the industry should have been, but was too greedy
and corrupt to be. Spread the word.

always been something going on that has turned me to it. And for the first
time in my life, I am repelled, apalled and disgusted by what I see in
music today. So much mindless crap and garbage. It's wonder that there
isn't a sole entity on this planet who hasn't given into it. Even the military
has take to MTV to spread their message to recruit future corpses. The
fact teenagers nowadays will listen to anything that someone who looks
remotely "cool" will tell them. It's mind control all over again. Tell
them what's hip and trendy , what's fashionable, and who to listen to for
their entires meaningless lives. Molding an army of little kids who will
serve no purpose in life other that to purchase American Eagle clothes
and Nelly Furtado CD's. Basically, anybody who was born between 1984-1988
is screwed to live this horrible existence. Now it may be cruel that I
say this, there are some of those who have strayed away form the mainstream
and I commend their efforts, but it only takes a matter of seconds these
days for underground culture to become mall culture. And everyone will
agree, nothing is sacred. MTV, sorry, Viacom has hijacked all of the tresured
aspects of youth culture and subcultures. Skateboarding, Hardcore punk,
turntablism, moshpits, all have been chewed up and dpit out by this. The
point is Generation C (Consumer) must be nuked back to the Junior Highschools
and f*cking school dances in which they belong.

It seems that in today's music world, you've got either two choices, J-Lo
and Britney Spears or Slipknot. And with Slipknot's equally stupid and

in 20 years No One will remember the name of any of her songs. Yet 99%
of the people I have talked to can spout off several names of Hendrix,
Zep and Clapton. So there is is some hope for this land of ours. The pop
plague will too pass and with any luck so real talent will riase to the
top. I am worried about the Aerosmith machine however. There edge has dulled
and the soft pop side is showing. God just isn't fair. If he was then N-sync
