Newsted Bashes New Metallica
It appears that former Metallica bass player Jason Newsted has finally gone on record with his opinion of the new Metallica album "St Anger".

Blabbermouth Reports: Former METALLICA bassist Jason Newsted called into The Blitz 99.7 FM in Columbus, Ohio Thursday afternoon (July 31) to talk about touring with VOIVOD and OZZY OSBOURNE on this year's Ozzfest and to answer a few METALLICA-related questions.

When asked for his opinion of the new METALLICA album, "St. Anger", Newsted said, "As a fan, it's pretty hard to listen to, tonality-wise. I think it's not very pleasing to the human ear. There's other albums that sound better, production-wise. Songwriting-wise, it's not bad. But I think that it could have been a lot more pleasant to listen to. If the [bonus] DVD would not have been [included] in the album, they would have been screwed. They redeemed themselves by putting in that DVD and showing that Lars [Ulrich] can actually play double-bass drums and stuff like that. Because I know, myself, as a fan, and a lot of other fans have questioned that for awhile the actual abilities of the band anymore. So I'm really glad, as fan, that they put that DVD in."

Ripper Joins Iced Earth.
It turns out Ripper Owens didn't have to worry about being unemployed when Rob Halford reunited with Judas Priest. Ripper has been recording with Iced Earth as a post by Jon Schaffer on the band's official website last week revealed.

Jon Schaeffer's post from IcedEarth.com:

 Hey People,

Well the album is done, and it's not just done, it rules!! I have never been more pleased in all my years of recording. It came out the way it was supposed to be!

And now for the big news, it's Tim Owens on vocals and he did an amazing job! I know there were a lot of people hoping that this would be the case, and it is. I've asked Neil to put a sample of 3 of the songs for you guys to check out. SPV agreed to letting  me do this as long as I did not put the whole song up. I hope you enjoy them, I know I do. I'll be in touch soon with more news and details of the release dates for the single which will be
called "The Reckoning" and the full length CD The Glorious Burden. I can honestly tell you I've never felt better and am truly looking to the future with more optimism than ever before.

Until next time,

Jon

Fake Record Deals
Here is a quick rant/news item that was posted to Punkbands.com, seems that there are some imposters out there signing bands up to Drive Thru Records.

Here is the Punkbands.com  report:

There are some very psychotic and weird people posing as employees of Drive
Thru Records, particularly posing as Stephanie and Richard. The label have [sic] been hearing different stories from people all over the place who have had encounters with these imposters. I think it's absolutely disgusting and pathetic that someone is claiming to be them and telling bands that dtr wants to sign them (amongst other things). Drive Thru would never in a million years do anything to upset a hard-working band.

Nugent Wants Showdown With Ill Gov
The always outspoken Ted Nugent has issued a challenge to Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich for a showdown before the "Nuge" performs at the Illinois State Fair on Aug. 11th.

AP Reports: The rocker and gun-rights advocate, known for the song "Cat Scratch Fever," is itching to tell Blagojevich how much he dislikes Illinois' gun laws.

"I challenge him to come backstage," Nugent told The (Springfield) State Journal-Register. "And let's talk 'We the people,' let's talk good over evil, let's talk laws forcing good people to be unarmed and helpless."

The 54-year-old co-author of the cookbook "Kill It & Grill It" said his main complaint is what he called Blagojevich's "refusal to stand up for the Second Amendment."

The comment was aimed at state laws that prohibit retired police officers from carrying concealed weapons. - - Click Here for the Full Story

Billboard.com Reports: AC/DC plans to have a new album finished "by the end of the year," guitarist Angus Young tells Billboard.com. "I'd love to get it done and so would [guitarist/brother] Malcolm [Young]. And then once we do that, the whole [touring] ballgame goes on again."
As previously reported, the upcoming set will be AC/DC's last for Elektra. Subsequent studio albums will be issued by Epic, which has recently reissued AC/DC's entire catalog. -  Click Here for the Full Story

Nirvana Bassist Quits Music-Biz
VH1.com Reports: The bassist for the most influential band of the '90s is leaving the music business.

Nirvana co-founder Krist Novoselic is packing up his instrument following the universal apathy displayed for Eyes Adrift, the alt-country band he formed in late 2001 with Meat Puppets guitarist Curt Kirkwood and Sublime drummer Bud Gaugh.

"I quit," he wrote in a post on the band's official Web site. "I can't deal. I can't read the magazines, listen to the radio or watch music television without feeling like I've just come in from outer space. I just don't get it and I probably never did." -. Click Here for the Full Story

Jack White Gets Screwed
Sorry, couldn't resist that headline.. now read the story from Undercover so you'll understand:

White Stripes guitarist Jack White has gone under the surgeons scalpel after breaking his finger in a car accident and is now the proud owner of a shiny new screw to help mend him back to action.

"A bone in the index finger of my fretting hand was shattered in an automobile accident," Jack says in a message at the band's website, "making it absolutely impossible to play guitar, especially since I've been instructed by doctor's that there is no way I can move my wrist until it is completely healed. The break did not heal properly, and surgery had to be performed. Three screws were placed in my finger to set the bones and insure complete recovery, three screws that will remain in my hand for life"

The White Stripes Livid Shows in Australia in October are safe but all White Stripes shows until the middle of September have been cancelled. "This includes the festivals in the British Isles, T in the Park, Witness, Reading, and Leeds" Jack says. -  Click Here for the Full Story
