3rd Band Drops Ozzfest.
They're dropping like flies. It seems like this year's Ozzfest may be cursed as it looks like yet another band has dropped off the tour. SHARRRROOOOONNNNN!!!

siN's metal news reports: According to a recent tip off, and other credible news sites, NOTHINGFACE have dropped off this years OZZFEST 2003. They are the third band to do so. It's believed lead singer Matt Holt's voice was shaking out on him, after he battled with a throat infection back in June, causing the departure.

They join GRADE 8 and DEPSWA. The latter who was replaced with E-TOWN CONCRETE and NOTHINGFACE who is said to be replaced by SLAVES ON DOPE.   - Click Here for the Full Story

Back In Living Colour
Rolling Stone reports: Living Colour will release their first album in ten  years, CollideOscope, on October 8th.

"The world is a 'collideoscope,'" says Living Colour frontman Corey Glover. "Cultures clash, ideas clash. So we're colliding a lot of different things."

The set, which comes after a 1995-2000 hiatus, adds world beats and electronica to the signature hard-rock sound forged on the band's 1988 debut Vivid and 1990's Time's Up. It also features two covers: an amped-up, electro-laced version of the Beatles "Tomorrow Never Knows" and a triumphant "Back in Black."

"It's very, very cool," Glover says of the AC/DC remake. "Straight-ahead, balls-to-the-walls rock & roll. They have a great sense of humor.". - Click Here for more info

Cantrell Dropped

Microsoft Copies Apple, again
AP Reports: Microsoft Corp. and a British digital music provider teamed Thursday to launch the first pan-European service selling songs over the Internet on a pay-as-you-go basis, following on the success of Apple's iTunes Music Store and other services in the United States.

London-based On Demand Distribution (OD2) has the largest catalogue of legal digital music in Europe more than 200,000 tracks from 8,500 artists on all five major labels, plus a slew of independents.

Europeans will be able to download songs starting at 99 euro cents ($1.12)  each without subscription fees through the MSN Music Club or Tiscali Music Club using Microsoft's Windows Media Player 9 technology.

While welcoming the increased choice for music lovers, European Union regulators said the news bolsters their antitrust case against the U.S. software giant. Just last week, the EU accused Microsoft of trying to squash competing audiovisual software by including its Media Player with the Windows desktop system.

It is demanding Microsoft either produce a version of Windows without the Media Player or incorporate rival programs into the package.

Gene Simmons Reality TV?
Canoe.ca reports:  Simmons says he's seen The Osbournes, loves Ozzy (he even did a quick "God Bless" impression) and yes, he's been asked to do a similar series. Cable net VH-1 is talking about following him around to various parties, but not home. "The public Gene Simmons is more interesting than the private one," he says, adding that he's never been drunk or high in his life and he doesn't care who knows it. - Click Here for more info

Sevendust Seasons
Reuters Reports: Hard rock act Sevendust will on Oct. 7 release its fourth full-length album, "Seasons."

The TVT disc, the group's first since 2001's "Animosity," will be supported with a vigorous touring schedule that commences Thursday in New Orleans.

The 12-track "Seasons" was produced by Butch Walker (Marvelous 3, Injected) and is led by first single "Enemy," which will ship to U.S. radio outlets later this month. Other tracks include "Separate," "Broken Down," "Honesty," "Enemy" and "Disease."  - Click Here for More info and tour dates

Motley Reunion?
Remember when Motley Crue had their last reunion?  No? Well for the record they may be teaming up again. Especially now that Nikki's Brides of Destruction seems on shaky ground. Of course, that's if Nikki doesn't die first, dude.

Total Rock reports: The much heralded Motley Crue reunion is moving ever closer. Bassist Nikki Sixx has now revealed that he's talking daily to the rest of the band (vocalist Vince Neil, drummer Tommy Lee and guitarist Mick Mars). Moreover, Sixx has said that he may not tour with his current band The Brides Of Destruction, unless their debut album is a big success. The record is to be mixed by Steve Thompson, and should be issued in Japan by the end of the year. So far, there are no deals for any releases in other countries.  (and not likely to be according to Tracii Guns see story) -  Click Here for the Full Story

Frampton Endorses Arnold In Song.
Launch Reports: Peter Frampton's upcoming album Now has an unplanned connection to Arnold Schwarzenegger and the California governor's race. In the chorus of the song "I'm Back," he sings, "I'm back/Like Schwarzenegger in the Terminator."

Frampton told LAUNCH that he and cowriter Gordon Kennedy came up with the track a while ago, and they couldn't have imagined how timely it would be now: "When we wrote that--that was, what, 18 months ago? Maybe even a little bit more? So, you know, Gordon and I couldn't believe it," Frampton said. "We're trying to get it to him now. Then someone says, 'Well, do you really want to endorse him?' I said, 'Well, I don't know--I'm not running. He's a liberal conservative.'"

While he might not exactly be in Schwarzenegger's corner, Frampton also said that Fleetwood Mac did pretty well by being attached to President Bill Clinton, so maybe teaming up with the potential California governor could work out for him.

Now comes out August 26. It's Frampton's first new studio album since his self-titled release in 1994.

The OC? What?
Friday rant: Why not start the weekend out bitching?

I sometime grow concerned when I see Orange County mentioned in the media. (Do not call it "The OC", only clueless people at Fox call it that. And then film the show in Manhattan and Hermosa Beach and base the characters on people you'd most likely find in Brentwood.)  O.C. has been getting a lot of attention lately as a source of "hip" culture. So naturally there are a lot of misconceptions about Orange County. Like the one that says we have a big music scene. We don't, we have a lot of great bands and yet few places to see them play. That being said, O.C. has produced more than its fair share of rock stars, especially in the world of punk.

So I sit through the 46 minutes of poorly written cliché' filled melodrama on the "hot" new Fox television series named after Orange County and I think to myself well at least they can be honest with the music. I know the setting in this show is about as close to Orange County as it is to Paris but will they try and scam the viewers with the music too? Do we get some Orange County bands?  Quick answer, no. But we do get a few from Los Angeles, which is close but no cigar and then we get bands from Brooklyn, Oklahoma, The Bay Area, Ohio but no Orange County.

Maybe the producers of the show knew they were already so full of you know what, they wanted to go the extra mile. God knows they wouldn't have to look far to find music from Orange County bands to place in their silly little show. Even highly successful bands as well. No, instead they give the spotlight to s***com star Alan Thicke's kid (who incidentally is from LA.)  Oh well, what do you expect from TV producers who live beyond the "Orange Curtain" and the network that brought us that other famous zipcode 90210.

Now that I've wasted your time with this rant that you probably could care less about, I'll leave you with some links:

To find music from some real Orange County bands check out this link or check out OC Weekly's The 129 Greatest OC Bands Ever!: (some of their picks are kind of screwy, like most of the OC Weekly, but at least they are all OC bands!)
