MTV Clones iTunes
siN's metal news: MTV's online offshoot is launching a paid service for consumers to buy digital music files, the first such system with the cooperation of all five major record labels. The new service, a partnership between MTVi and RioPort.com, will make about 10,000 music files available starting later this month through the Internet radio sites, Radio MTV.com and VH1 atWork Radio. Each of the labels - BMG Entertainment, EMI, Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group - will offer files to download, said Nicholas Butterworth, president and CEO of the MTVi Group.

The venture lets MTV, with a successful television network and Web site, enter music retailing. Butterworth said MTV's television networks would not discriminate against artists whose songs are not made available for sale, but they will more heavily promote those whose works are available.

He predicted that by the end of the year, about half of the music played on MTV networks would be available for download.

I could be wrong but I believe there are other services with licensing from all 5 major labels.

Limp Bizkit's Behind
Launch reports: The second single from Limp Bizkit's new Results May Vary album is an already controversial cover of the Who's "Behind Blue Eyes." Mike Smith, Limp Bizkit's new guitarist, says it was important to singer Fred Durst that the group's version wasn't a carbon copy of the Who's.

"He really made it his own, I think," Smith said. "I tell him all the time, I'm like, 'Dude, that song was written for you to sing.' The Who's version is awesome, obviously--you know, it's the original version. But Fred, when I hear that version, I'm just, I just get chills, man, 'cause I think he did a wonderful job, and I think it does relate to him. And I think that's something he wanted to share with people."

Yeah the DJ scratching add so much depth to the song. The Limp version does induce a feeling but it's not the chills.

Manson Exorcised
Much Music reports: Earlier this week, about one hundred evangelical Christians prayed for Marilyn Manson's soul in Monterrey, Mexico during a protest against the rocker's scheduled appearance there on November 5. Monterrey City Council also received a petition from 3,000 citizens objecting to the concert. The city's mayor says the concert will go ahead as planned.. Click Here for the Full Story

Fozzy Get Real?
Blabbermouth reports: FOZZY, the brainchild of former WWE champion Chris Jericho and ex-STUCK MOJO mastermind Rich Ward, have decided to do away with their "SPINAL TAP of '80s hairspray metal scene" gimmick and record an album consisting 100% of original material. The band's follow-up to last year's "Happenstance", which contained four original songs alongside a host of classic metal covers, is tentatively due next spring.

"You can consider this the beginning of the true FOZZY dynasty," the group's webmaster Eddie Dibergi writes on their web site. "Yes, the band will continue to put on the most entertaining and powerful show in rock but the gimmicks will be retired. Love 'em or hate 'em, the music and performances will stand on their own with nothing to get in the way. And we're sure that the legend built touring the world these past three years will continue to grow as new fans witness first-hand the machine that is FOZZY. .-Click Here for the Full Story

You mean Fozzy wasn't really held hostage all those years in Japan and didn't really write all those songs? I'll be damned!

Snider For Halloween
Billboard reports:  When you hear music at a Halloween party or a haunted house, it usually consists of creepy noises and bloodcurdling screams. Appropriate, but not something you would play at home to put you in a spooky mood.

Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider (news) figures there are plenty of Christmas soundtracks -- why not one for Allhallows Eve?

So he put together Van Helsing's Curse (VHC), a rock orchestra that debuted Oct. 7 with "Oculus Infernum" on Koch.

Snider explains, "I'm a huge fan of Halloween. It's a big holiday at my house" -- especially when one of his children was born Oct. 31. But the idea of creating a musical accompaniment took hold after he saw Trans Siberian Orchestra (TSO), the rock extravaganza that tours at Christmastime.

Snider was "completely blown away by the whole rock-orchestra thing. I just said, 'Wow! I wanna do something like this; what can I do?"'

Halloween was the obvious choice. Describing it as "woefully undersupported with music," Snider likes that he can "bring in elements that, things that I've always been very comfortable with, and that's costuming and makeup. Our string section looks like Anne Rice goths, our electric section looks like Manson goths, and our choir are druids, so it's a much more visual presentation.".- Click Here for the Full Story
