Green Day Says "F**K The Network".
From Green Day's official website: Green Day's Billy Armstrong is stirring the pot a bit in the Network controversy, which says that the new album by the masked band "The Network" released under Armstrong's vanity label is actually a studio album from Green Day that was rejected by their record company.  Armstrong gave fans a recorded message on the official Green Day site where he says, "Hey everybody, what's up? This is Billy Joe. Uh, I just wanted to talk about the rumors and the bulls*** that has been going on lately. All I gotta say is f*** The Network. These guys are totally spreading rumors. I try to do those guys a favor by bringing them to this country and putting out their record and this is how I get repaid, by talking s*** about my band. Anyways, unfortunately there is a contract and I have to put out their record. So, The only thing I can say is f*** you Network, bring it on', [unintelligible]".-- Click Here for the Full Story

Microsoft Music Not Kosher
AP Reports - Nearly a year after Microsoft Corp. agreed to end its anticompetitive conduct, the government is raising concerns the world's largest software maker is trying to use its dominant Windows operating system to influence where customers buy their music online.

If the dispute isn't resolved by week's end, it could become the first test of Microsoft's landmark antitrust settlement that was approved by a federal court in October 2002.

Lawyers for the Justice Department and 19 state attorneys general have formally complained to a federal judge about a design feature of Windows that compels consumers who buy music online to use only Microsoft's Internet browser and steers them to a Web site operated by the company.

Microsoft's design "may be inconsistent" with the settlement, government lawyers wrote in court papers asking U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly to intervene if the problems aren't resolved.

The company said Monday it is willing to work with the government but does not believe the design is illegal. Online music purchases are expected to be one of the most-lucrative areas for Internet commerce.

"We believe that the use of Internet Explorer by the Shop-for-Music-Online link in Windows is consistent with the design rules established by the consent decree, and we will continue to work with the government to address any concerns," spokeswoman Stacy Drake said. -Click Here for the Full Story

As long as Bill doesn't get to choose which songs we play on our PC's. "Blinded Me With Science" and "Everybody Wants to Rule The World" 24/7 would get old real quick.

More on Metallica Cancellation
siN's metal news reports: We now have an official statement regarding the cancelled METALLICA dates for South America and Japan. Here's from Intersandman.com. They pulled this quote from the a Brazilian chapter of the MetClub:

"We'd like to tell you that Brazilian concerts of METALLICA are officially cancelled. The producer just e-mailed us telling that. Also, the producer tells that money back thing will be know later today, through an official statement about the cancelation of the shows. We also know that Sony from Japan confirmed the cancelation on that country, like a newspaper in Chile. So, we all are very sorry about that and we getting worried because we sent e-mails for MetClub asking what happened and, until now, no answers we get."

A confirmation from the members of METALLICA has not yet been made.

Stone Temple Rehab
Blabbermouth reports: a U.S. judge has allowed STONE TEMPLE PILOTS/VELVET REVOLVER lead singer Scott Weiland to remain free while he tries to kick a persistent drug habit, but has warned him that could change if he has another "dirty" drug test.

Judge Colette Serio on Monday (October 20) congratulated Weiland on completing most of the drug testing and counselling requirements stemming from his August no contest plea to two felony drug possession charges. The 35-year-old California native tested positive for drugs shortly after his May 17 arrest in the Los Angeles suburb of Burbank but subsequent tests have been clean, Serio said.

"Overall this is an excellent report," Serio told Weiland. "I want to advise you that if you have any other positive tests you will have to go back to residential treatment."- Click Here for the Full Story

You mean Fozzy wasn't really held hostage all those years in Japan and didn't really write all those songs? I'll be damned!

Filter In Chains
Blabbermouth reports: FILTER mainman Richard Patrick has posted the following message to the "Rich's Words" section of the group's official web site:

"Ladies and gentlemen the new FILTER record is unbelievable, it's coming along nicely and it's full of lots of variety. [Engineer] Rae Dileo and I are pounding out the songs and I've been talking to new producers to bring on board, there's some really talented folks out there. I recently had the honor and privilege of having [former ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist] Jerry Cantrell come into the studio and work on new material with me. He came and pumped out about 100 hundred riffs and it was awesome, I had a lot of fun and it's great to work with him. Ya know, I've been sober for more than a year now, and the first thing I did to mark the anniversary was to go out and get a tattoo of my sobriety date on my arm. It didn't hurt at all, it only cost me $60 and it'll be there forever. I've been seeing a lot of shows in LA recently including RADIOHEAD and MARILYN MANSON, they both rocked and its making me want to get back out on the road again. So yeah thanks for the support, expect a new FILTER record in the near future, love ya and I'll talk to you soon."- Click Here for the Full Story

Lamb Of God's Epic DVD
Metal Underground reports: Lamb Of God have set "Terror and Hubris" as the title for their forthcoming DVD, due out by the end of the year via the group's official web site (early 2004 through all retail outlets). The disc, which is set to be released with a list price of $9.99, will consist of 13 chapters and 11 extras, including 4-5 live performance tracks taken from this year's Hellfest and New England Hardcore and Metal Festival, all three Lamb Of God videos, interviews with the group and individual members, promo videos and various self-recorded behind-the-scenes material.

Says drummer Chris Adler, "This is a quick snapshot of the past several years and a way for us to make a video collection for ourselves and the people that have helped this band build without insulting them with a big price tag."

In other news, Lamb Of God have officially confirmed that they have inked a new recording contract with Epic Records (Sony Music) via a special arrangement with their previous label Prosthetic Records. The signing was officially announced by the band during their appearance of MTV2's "Headbanger's Ball" this past Saturday night (October 18)..- Click Here for the Full Story

Zombie Comic
Metal Underground reports: The first issue of Rob Zombie's long-awaited comic book, "Spookshow International", is set to hit the stands on October 29.

Described by Rob as "an anthology comic," "Spookshow International" will have "three stories in every issue that continue on throughout the course of the book," Zombie explained to DigitalWebbing.com. Each story will be written by Rob with art by such talents as Mike Manley, Will Conrad, Pat Boutin and comic-book legend Gene Colan.

"The first [story in the first issue] is called 'El Superbeasto', which is sort of a superhero-masked-mexican-wrestler guy who lives in this world that sort of a monster world," Rob said. "But it's funny, y'know? It's sort of like Austin Powers. It's a take on '60s spy movies, and has that vibe. Sort of 'Rat Pack' meets 'The Munsters' secret agent superhero monster guy!

"The second story in there is sort of a 'House Of 1000 Corpses' story sort of different adventures of some of the characters. The third story is one that Gene Colan, who was always one of my favorite artists in the '70s, did for me many years ago but like I never printed. It's like 'The Origin of Zombie' story! It's kind of this fictitious thing, as if it's a character that kind of keeps coming back. It's kind of a 'House of Frankenstein' almost with Professor Lampini traveling circus and this character kind of looks like Boris Karloff in that movie. It's pretty cool."- Click Here for the Full Story
