Iron Maiden Reviews Bizkit
Ratethemusic.com reports that IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson has offered some advice to LIMP BIZKIT's Fred Durst.

"LIMP BIZKIT are as dead as a doornail now," Dickinson said. "[Fred] couldn't write his way out of a paper bag. That new [LIMP BIZKIT] single ['Eat You Alive'] is just awful. He needs to listen to people telling him he's rubbish." - Click Here for the Full Story

Deftones MP3's Nixed
MTV.com reports: There are plenty of options for fans to legitimately buy music online these days, but record labels are still not hip to artists just giving it away. The Deftones learned that lesson the hard way recently when their label, Maverick Records, took down more than 40 live bootlegs the band had posted on its Web site in July.

"I think Maverick got mad because they own all that music," said singer Chino Moreno. "It was our idea to put it up there, but I think we were maybe supposed to ask permission of something."

The 49 bootlegs of shows in 2000, 1995 and 1992 were available for free download on the band's site for several weeks but were removed approximately three weeks ago and replaced with a note reading: "Taken down for now ... sorry." Maverick did not authorize the posting of the songs, according to a label spokesperson..- Click Here for the Full Story

Beatles Won't Let It Be
AP reports: A new version of The Beatles' album "Let It Be" will be released in November, the group's company Apple Corps announced Thursday.

"Let It Be...Naked" strips the 1969 album of Phil Spector's lavish production effects, returning to Sir Paul McCartney's original idea for the recording. "This is the noise we made in the studio," McCartney said of the new version. "It's exactly as it was in the room. You're right there now."

"Let It Be...Naked" mostly keeps the same track listing as the original album, which featured songs Let It Be, The Long and Winding Road, Get Back and Across the Universe.

Background dialogue, Dig It and Maggie Mae have been taken off the album, and Don't Let Me Down has been added, Apple Corps said.

Most of "Let It Be" was recorded in 1969 for an album which was to have been called "Get Back," showing The Beatles returning to their roots as a four-piece rock-and-roll band. But the group was splitting up and the album was abandoned.

Spector was later brought in to convert hundreds of hours of tape into an album, renamed "Let It Be."

Ringo Starr told Rolling Stone magazine earlier this year: "Paul was always totally opposed to Phil. I told him on the phone (recently), `You're bloody right again. It sounds great without Phil.' Which it does."

"Let It Be...Naked" is to be released by EMI Records on November 17. - Click Here for the Full Story

Spector Case Goes To The DA
AP reports: Sheriff's detectives investigating the murder case involving legendary record producer Phil Spector say they have submitted their findings to prosecutors.

Detectives completed their preliminary investigation and submitted their findings Thursday to the district attorney "for their consideration of a criminal filing," sheriff's Deputy Scott Butler said. He said the department would not discuss the investigation further.

Spector, whose "wall of sound" recording technique transformed 1960s pop music, was arrested Feb. 3 for investigation of murder after the body of 40-year-old Lana Clarkson (news) was found in the foyer of his hilltop Alhambra mansion. He was released after posting $1 million bail, which has been extended in past months while an investigation has been pending.

Spector suggested in a July Esquire magazine interview that Clarkson, an actress and hostess at the House of Blues, may have shot herself, but sheriff's investigators said in March that they discounted suicide as a possible cause of death. .- Click Here for the Full Story

The Darkness Hits US Shores
Billboard reports: U.K. import the Darkness [played] arguably the most important show of its career [last night] before a sold-out audience at the Bowery Ballroom in New York. Having polarized audiences across Europe with its update on '80s hair metal and arena rock, the English quartet is enjoying its third week atop the U.K. albums chart with its debut, "Permission To Land." The set was issued Tuesday in North America via Atlantic.

Acrobatic frontman Justin Hawkins sports animal-print spandex body suits while belting out such songs as "Get Your Hands off My Woman" and "Love on the Rocks With No Ice" in a soaring falsetto that elicits both smiles and winces. Hawkins says he doesn't mind if that reaction is the same in the States.

"We've always been a band that's divided people, really," he tells Billboard.com. "The people that loved us absolutely loved us, and the people that hated us f***in' hated us. It was always a good indication that we weren't going to be a coffee table band. But we are going to be a band that has a really strong, devout following."

The band is ready to put in the extra miles and hours touring and promoting themselves in America. Its members are quite proud of the fact that after years of being dissed in the tastemaking British music magazines -- the NME reported that Hawkins should be hung -- they've finally conquered the country. Now they have their sights set on the States. After tonight's show, the Darkness will play Toronto and Los Angeles before returning to Europe. The band will begin a larger North American tour in November.

"This is what we've worked towards," Hawkins says. "And now we're here -- it's a window of opportunity. And we're not in the habit of making the sort of mistakes that would lead to that window being slammed shut, never to be opened again. We feel ready, so it's just a matter of plugging in and going for it now."

No Charges In Great White Memorial Theft
AP reports: Police will not bring charges against a woman who removed two crosses dedicated to Great White guitarist Ty Longley from the site of The Station fire, police said Wednesday.

Police Chief Peter Brousseau told The Associated Press that authorities determined criminal charges are not warranted because items placed at the site are considered abandoned property.

The attorney general's office also reviewed the case, Brousseau said.

Diane Mattera, of Warwick, said she took Longley's crosses down because his band set off the pyrotechnics that sparked the Feb. 20 blaze, which killed 100 people including Longley and Mattera's daughter, 29-year-old Tammy Mattera-Housa.

A replacement memorial for Longley a steel cross in the shape of a guitar has been mounted in cement at the site. Click Here Full Story
