Nirvana "Polly" Studio Demolished
Launch reports: Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin, where Nirvana recorded part of their ground-breaking 1991 album Nevermind, was demolished earlier this week when a truck crashed into it.

The studio, which is owned by Nevermind producer and Garbage drummer Butch Vig, was destroyed when the truck hit a car on the road outside and veered into the building. Damages were estimated at $50,000. No one was in the studio at the time, although Garbage, who were recording their new album there, had just left the facility an hour before the accident.

Vig told NME.com, "I got woken up at three in the morning by a call from the security guard there who said, 'Man, you better get down [here]--a truck's just gone into your studio.' ...if it had been three days earlier, there would have been a band called Paris, Texas in the downstairs studio and Garbage would have been upstairs. It would have killed them."

Nirvana recorded at Smart Studios for a week in April of 1990 during the sessions for Nevermind, emerging with the song "Polly." Other acts who have recorded at Smart include Beck, the Smashing Pumpkins, and U2.

Eminem, Biggie, Tupac, Love Fest
NME reports: EMINEM has brought together hip-hop bitterest rivals on record but only after their death.

Marshall Mathers has produced a track, 'Running (Dying To Live)' for a new posthumous Tupac Shakur album, and the track also contains a verse from Shakur's fallen rival, Notorious BIG. The song uses a Shakur vocal over a new Eminem backing track, which samples Edgar Winters' blues classic Dying To Live' in its chorus.

Earlier this year, Eminem recorded a rap over an old Tupac production.

Running (Dying To Live)' is taken from the forthcoming soundtrack', Tupac: Resurrection', which according to MTV will feature songs that tell a chronological story of his life and career'.

The compilation was inspired' by a film about Shakur's life to be released later this autumn. The album is set for a US release of November 4. The soundtrack will be the tenth Tupac album to be released since his death in 1996..- Click Here for the Full Story

Great White Drummer In Car Crash
AP Reports: The drummer for Great White, the rock band associated with a deadly Rhode Island nightclub fire, was involved in a three-vehicle accident a few hours before a concert.

Derrick Pontier was treated at a hospital for minor injuries after Saturday's accident and was released.

In February, the band was performing at The Station nightclub when its pyrotechnics display ignited a fire that killed 100 and injured almost 200. The band's guitarist, Ty Longley, died in the blaze.

Great White has donated $37,000 from more than a dozen recent shows to a nonprofit organization created to benefit victims' families and survivors of the fire.

In Saturday's accident, an oncoming car crossed the center line and crashed into Pontier's vehicle, police said.

That driver was listed in critical condition. Pontier's car slammed into another vehicle, and the condition of that driver wasn't known. .- Click Here for the Full Story

MegaComeback
Blabbermouth reports: (Dave) Mustaine recently spoke to Guitar One magazine for their November 2003 "Metal" issue. With regards to his upcoming solo debut, Dave said, "There are certain things, musically, in my soul, that know when it's time to come out. And if I try to coax it out at the wrong time, you'll know it just ain't right. I don't know what the new stuff will sound like, but I can tell you that what I'm working on right now is exciting for me."

Mustaine also talked about the condition called radial neuropathy, a nerve disorder of the arm that stopped Dave's musical career dead in its tracks in early 2002. So bleak was his future that in March of last year, Mustaine officially disbanded MEGADETH. "I was pretty crippled I couldn't even hold a coffee cup with my left hand," he recalled.

But the time off has provided the guitarist with a fresh new outlook on life. "The whole [healing] process was well worth it," he said. "I've completely reevaluated my whole life everything from my spiritual process to eating and sleeping to the way I address my peers. It's been a serious delousing of my entire life, as if somebody had set off a flea bomb inside my brain." With intense physical therapy and the same determination the guitarist has always applied to his music, Mustaine has overcome his disability, and reports that his hand is now "better than it was before the injury."

Motorhead Guitarist Welch Hero
Blabbermouth.net reports: MOTÖRHEAD guitarist Phil Campbell has shot up the list of candidates to be named greatest Welsh hero following an Internet campaign by fans of the band, the BBC reports. Campbell, originally from Pontypridd, is now fifth in the list of nominees on the Welsh Heroes web site after the official MOTÖRHEAD site put a link on it and urged fans to vote for him.

But the move has bemused some at the Welsh assembly, who set up the poll to find the best leaders, thinkers, performers and sports greats.

Campbell, 42, is closing fast on the father of the NHS, Aneurin Bevan on Sunday, he had 294 votes to the Labour man's 333.

Campbell said the poll results were "totally unbelievable" and thanked those who were supporting him.

A spokesperson for the assembly was reported as saying: "It's crazy we expected heroes like Dylan Thomas, Archbishop Rowan Williams or even Neil Kinnock to be in the top five."

"To have a rock star...was not the idea at all."

The web site, 100 Welsh Heroes, was officially launched by Alun Pugh AM, the minister for culture, sport and languages in Wales, three weeks ago and invites people to nominate their heroes in five areas.

Nominations close on 1 December, when a top 100 list will be drawn up for people to vote for the Welsh person they most admire.

The top ten will be announced on St. David's Day, 1 March 2004. - Click Here for the Full Story

Go for it Phil they should make you a Lord!  And who else thinks Lemmy should be knighted? Sir Lemmy and Lord Campbell.

Elton John Rehashes Road
Rolling Stone reports: Thirty years after its original release, Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road will be reissued in Surround Sound 5.1 in expanded form November 11th.

The remastered two-disc reissue will include three B-sides -- "Jack Rabbit," "Whenever You're Ready (We'll Go Steady Again)" and "Screw You (Young Man's Blues)" -- recorded during the sessions for the album but never paired with the original album material. A limited-edition deluxe version of the package will include a DVD documenting the making of the album, featuring interviews with Elton John, lyricist Bernie Taupin and late producer Gus Dudgeon.

Greg Penny -- who produced Elton John's 1995 album, Made in England -- handled remastering duties for the project and inadvertently created the collection's principal attraction, an acoustic version of "Candle in the Wind" with only vocals and guitar.

Penny was also present for much of the original recording of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in France -- he was seventeen at the time -- and the package will include photos he took during the sessions.

Penny will soon begin remastering John's first fourteen albums, from Empty Sky to Blue Moves, in Surround Sound..- Click Here for the Full Story

More Meshuggah
siN's metal news reports: MESHUGGAH left a message on their website indicating they have started writing material for their new album:

"We have also been working with the studio trying to get it ready for future recordings of Meshuggah. We have been trying out a whole bunch of different microphones for the drums, because this time we are planning to record the whole album in the studio, not just guitars and vocals.

Tomas and Fredrik is right now in Umea recording the Drumkit From Hell II, which is set to be released in the beginning of next year.

Sorry for this delay in updating you guys, but sometimes the summer "vacation" just grabs you by the balls and make you paralyzed and numb.

And yes, we have started writing songs for the new album!"-Click Here Full Story

Worthless Story of the Week
This Benifer thing has gone way too far..  What the next big headline?  "Benifer Walks the Dog?"

The Augusta Chronicle reports: Hollywood megacouple Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez popped up yet again in southeast Georgia this week, dropping by an auto dealership in Liberty County to purchase a pickup.

It was just another routine inquiry, thought Greg Stanley, of Liberty Chrysler Dodge in Hinesville, when he took the call from someone who identified himself simply as "Ben."

"I'm looking for a loaded Dodge Ram off-road, four-wheel drive pickup truck. Do you have any on the lot?" Ben asked.

"As a matter of fact I have one on the lot," Mr. Stanley replied. "Could I get your full name so I could hold it for you if you want to come in and look at it?"

"Ben Affleck," came the response.

In the back of Mr. Stanley's mind at that moment was, "Sure, and my name is George Bush."

Mr. Stanley still had his doubts until a black Range Rover pulled into the parking lot, followed by a small army of photographers.  Mr. Stanley, standing in the show room at the time, went out to greet Mr. Affleck. He was  shocked to see he had Ms. Lopez with him.

"I was double-surprised when I saw her," Mr. Stanley said. "I thought to myself: Both of them. Wow."

.. the rest is a play by play of them buying the truck with such hard hitting news reporting as Ben asking Jennifer if she liked the color. Jennifer preferred the extra-wide bucket seats. If you really have to know the rest, follow the link below. - Click Here Full Story

The story was only below the fold on the front page. What was the headline article? The War in Iraq? The Democratic Candidate Debate? Nope, it was this gem, "Call it Ted's excellent adventure, with a high-tech twist: A cat with an ID microchip implanted under his skin was returned to his owner 10 years after he jumped out a window and vanished."  I kid you not. The other big story on the front page was about a student getting kicked out of school for pot. But the cat story was much more news worthy along with Bennifer buying a truck. And who says the news media doesn't cover hard hitting stories these days?
