Playboy W.K.
Blabbermouth reports: ANDREW W.K. recently stopped by Playboy's Chicago photo studios to take pictures of a nude female model for the magazine's online edition. "It was really insane and amazingly weird", said Andrew, "Taking pictures like that was one of the craziest things I've ever gotten to do, for sure!" - Click Here for the Full Story

Columbine Repeat Averted
Blabbermouth reports: Two Southeast Louisiana heavy metal fans were arrested Monday (Jan. 12) on charges of terrorizing for what detectives say was a plan to re-create the bloody massacre at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., according to the Associated Press.

Dutchtown High School students Christopher Levins, 17, of Prairieville and Addam Sinclair, 19, of Geismar each was booked on one count of terrorizing, a felony punishable with up to 15 years in prison, said Sheriff Jeff Wiley of Ascension Parish, a rural and suburban area east of Baton Rouge. The two remained in jail Tuesday.

The investigation started Friday with an anonymous call to the school indicating some kind of disturbance involving weapons was being planned on the campus, Lt. Kevin Hanna, the chief investigator, said. "During the weekend, we came up with information that told us this was way beyond gossip and there was credibility with the threat," Wiley said.

Warrants were issued for detectives to search the school lockers, book bags, computers and homes of Levins and Sinclair on Monday. Once detectives began looking through the students' homes and personal belongings, deputies realized the gravity of their plan, Hanna and Wiley said.

The two apparently were obsessed with the April 20, 1999, school shootings in Littleton, Colo. - Click Here for the Full Story

Idol Simon All Wet
Ananova reports: Simon Cowell has been drenched with water by a disgruntled contestant on American Idol.

The soaking happened in the new series of the show - and Cowell had not even uttered a word.

The unnamed contestant had just finished belting out a tune when Cowell, apparently lost for words, stood up and put his head in his hands, reports the London Evening Standard.

The contestant walked towards the desk, where Cowell was sitting with fellow judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul, and appeared to be reaching to shake his hand.

But Cowell realised he was trying to grab a cup of water and desperately tried to grab it back.

After grappling for a few seconds, the young man pulled the cup away and threw the water all over him.

The scene will be shown in the third series of American Idol which begins next week. - Click Here for the Full Story

Jack White Pleads
AP reports: White Stripes lead singer Jack White, who's accused of repeatedly punching the lead singer of another band in the face, pleaded innocent Wednesday to a misdemeanor aggravated assault charge and was ordered to stand trial on March 9.

The Dec. 13 fight between White and Von Bondies lead singer Jason Stollsteimer began shortly before midnight at the Majestic Theater Center, where both men were in the audience for another concert.

Stollsteimer, 25, of Detroit, told police that White punched him seven times in the face. Police said Stollsteimer's right eye was bruised and swollen, and he was bleeding from his nose.

White, also of Detroit, went to the police after the fight and gave a statement saying he struck Stollsteimer in self-defense.

White faces punishment ranging from no jail time to a maximum of a year in prison and a $1,000 fine if convicted. - Click Here for the Full Story

Ozzy Grohl
BW&BK reports: Dave Grohl, in conversation with BW&BK recently about Probot, his so far pretty much universally acclaimed metal album out soon on Southern Lord Records, had the following to say about his strange and brief experience as a potential Ozzy collaborator.

"Well, you know, that's interesting, because a friend of mine from Epic Records called and asked if I would like to contribute some songs for the Ozzy album. And I said sure. So I recorded a couple songs, just old school riffs that I thought would sound great with some Ozzy vocals. I sent them to them and never heard one word from them again. Still, to this day, I haven't heard anything back from them. I'm sure that none of them made it on the record, but evidently they recorded one, maybe for a b-side or something. I don't know; I've never heard back from them. But I recorded a couple songs that were really like old school Ozzy, stuff that sounded like it could've made sense on the first two albums. I thought that would be a really cool direction for him to go in, instead of some massive orchestrated ballad that sounded like it was written by the same guy who writes Aerosmith songs. I thought it would be cool to go back to the lo-fi of the first two albums, the old school riffs. So I gave those to them, and never heard back." - Click Here for the Full Story

No Megadeth
siN's metal news reports: Dave Mustaine of MEGADETH has checked into the official site with the following message:

I am also working on other material that everyone seems to know about, so I will confirm this:
1) Yes, I am in the studio working on MEGADETH material old and new.
2) Yes, I did contact previous MEGADETH band members Marty Friedman, Nick Menza, and David Ellefson about making a new record.
3) I was unable to accommodate Friedman and Ellefson, and sadly Nick, who was the most gracious and ready to rock, will not be playing on this new record I am doing.
4) Any talk of a reunion is wishful thinking.

New MEGADETH Record
I started last year in October working on a new record and was unsure if it was going to be a MEGADETH record or the first record of my career-post MEGADETH.

But there was too much good music that was written during the MEGADETH era that was left incomplete and unreleased that I had written and I decided to assemble that music first. It is frikkin' heavy and most people that have been around are surprised it was never released.

Regardless of being unable to come to an agreement with the RIP line-up, I am excited to say that Chris Poland is in the studio with me in Arizona, working on this new record. Vinnie Colaiuta and Jimmy Sloas played drums and bass with me on this record and I should be done somewhere around the end of March. Don't worry, they rip!

I have heard the rumors and I don't pay them any mind; I know that the people who are saying they are "insiders" or have "inside info" are talking out their asses, and that some of them have been right by way of "a guess," but that's it. If these people say they are friends of mine and are disclosing private information about me, then I can tell you they are not considered a friend by me. - Click Here for the Full Story

Ultimate Fakebook No More
Aversion reports: Ultimate Fakebook is going the way of the hair metal it so adored: The band announced it will throw in the towel later this year.

No reasons were given for the band's end, the Manhattan, Kans., band faced its share of ups and downs over its career. A major-label deal proved unproductive, as Sony's 550 Music only re-released This Will Be Laughing Week before giving the band the shove. After regrouping from the Sony disaster, Ultimate Fakebook put out 2002's Open Up and Say Awesome and last year's Before We Spark EP on Initial.

"We never would have even gotten anywhere at all without the amazing support so many of you gave us, and we want you to know how much we deeply appreciate how kick ass our fans are," the band said in a statement. "The music will always be there, and the coolest thing ever for us would be for it to inspire anyone out there to go for it, 'quit yer day job' and hit the road for the love of rock. We sure as hell had fun doing it, we have no regrets, and we're damn proud of the records we made." - Click Here for the Full Story

"We want to leave the creative vision to the individual designer, but as a point of reference we see 'Firestarter' as the Dark Knight to Gene Simmons," reads a post on Gene's web site.

If you think you have what it takes to create the "Firestarter", submit your ideas to [email protected]. The winner will receive a choice of a cash prize or a trip to see KISS and meet Gene Simmons.- Click Here for the Full Story

"I guess we're just going to record and work. We don't plan so far ahead anymore." - Click Here for the Full Story

FCC F'n Fines
AP reports: Federal Communications Commission Chairman Michael Powell asked Congress Wednesday for a tenfold increase in the amount of fines the panel can levy against broadcasters for indecent or obscene programming.

Powell said the current maximum fine of $27,500 per incident was not enough to persuade broadcasters to watch their language.

"Some of these fines are peanuts," Powell told a National Press Club luncheon. "They're just a cost of doing business. That has to change."

The two largest fines were $1.7 million against Infinity Broadcasting in 1995 to settle several cases against Howard Stern, and $357,000 in October against Infinity for a radio segment in which a couple was said to be having sex in New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral. - Click Here for the Full Story

UK Music Sales Up
Ananova reports: Album sales in the UK hit a record high in 2003 after increasing by 7.6%.

An industry report said the rise was fuelled by falling CD prices - in spite of piracy fears.

Almost 121 million artist albums, which exclude compilations, were sold - according to Official UK Charts Company figures quoted in Music Week magazine.

Dido had the year's best-selling album with Life For Rent, followed by Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera, reports the BBC.

In the singles market, the Black Eyed Peas had the biggest seller of 2003.

But there was no good news for the singles market as overall sales continued to slide, with a drop of nearly 30%. - Click Here for the Full Story
