GNR Vs. Rolling Stone
Rockdirt reports: Guns N' Roses keyboardist
Dizzy Reed recently spoke to the Rock Journal about his relationship with
the group's notorious lead singer, Axl Rose. Asked how he gets along with
Rose, Reed replied, "I think he's one of the coolest, most giving, warmest
people I've ever met. Sure he's temperamental, but he's a good friend.
Seriously though, he's a good guy." With regards to whether he thinks Rose
is being treated unfairly by the media, Dizzy said, "It's ridiculously
unfair. It's just total creation of the media. For some reason, when the
media turns on someone, they just let him have it and it's completely unfair.
The thing is, a lot of it happened when he kind of disappeared for a long
time. So he wasn't around. Rolling Stone put out a whole article based
on interviews of people that... well, they put him on a cover and never
spoke to him at all about anything to sell their fu**ing magazine. They
basically just collected a whole bunch of negative comments. [see full
story for more, plus a link to the full interview. A side note, Dizzy's
side band Hookers n' Blow will be playing at the Cat Club in Hollywood
this Thursday night with Slim Jim Phantom's Starf***ers (Dizzy plays with
them too). ]- Click

Canada Afraid of Metal?
Rockdirt reports: Former Skid Row singer
Sebastian Bach has spoken to the Canadian Press about the current resurgence
of hard rock with bands like Velvet Revolver and The Darkness finding a
welcome place on radio. "To have Velvet Revolver as the No. 1 album on
Billboard is great for all rock 'n' rollers," he said. "That's saying rock
is back." The only place metal's not welcome, Bach says, is Canada. "Canada's
far from the heavy metal capital of the world. They're scared of the word
'heavy metal' here. That's why Sebastian Bach had to move," he said, referring
to his departure in 1987 to join Skid Row. "I don't know why that is."

B.I.G. Death Trial A Go
MTV reports: Ever since the unsolved murder
of Notorious B.I.G. seven years ago, there have been numerous theories
about what really happened and one of those theories, which points a
finger at the LAPD, is about to get tested in court.
The rapper's mother, Voletta Wallace, and his widow, singer Faith Evans, along with other heirs filed a wrongful-death suit two years ago in federal court against the city of Los Angeles as well as former and current LAPD police chiefs, and it's just been cleared to go to trial.
The lawyers representing the estate of the rapper, whose given name was Christopher Wallace, just prevailed in a hearing held on June 21, with the court denying a motion to dismiss the case. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Rare White Stripes
Pitchfork reports: Jack White took time
out of his busy Renee-banging, Stollsteimer-punching schedule to chat with
fans in an online Q&A hosted by fansite whitestripes.net.
During the chat, White revealed that the band will soon be issuing a slew of material to tide over fans until their next release hits the streets-- which, incidentally, won't be for a while, as the band reportedly hasn't even entered the studio to begin laying down tracks yet. The most anticipated of these forthcoming releases is sure to be a collection of the White Stripes' B-sides and rarities, which is presently in the works.
Though no release date or tracklist has been announced as of press time, it's a good bet that the compilation will include the bulk of the band's early 7-inches, originally released through their pre-V2 label Sympathy for the Record Industry [see full story for a lot more details including a rumored live disc]- Click Here for the Full Story

Love Misses Court, Rushed
To The Hospital
antiMUSIC reports: Courtney Love was scheduled
to spend her 40th birthday in a Los Angeles court on Friday, instead she
ended up in a New York Hospital. Just hours after a judge issued a warrant
for her arrest for failing to appear in court, Love was taken to a New
York City area hospital.
Rumors spread quickly when it was learned that Love had been taken to the hospital. Speculation ran the gambit but her attorney was quick to answer those charges, "It is not a suicide attempt, not drug-related, not drug-overdose-related," said Love's attorney Michael Rosenstein. "It's a gynecological medical condition for which she is receiving treatment."
Earlier in the day, Love was scheduled to appear in a Los Angeles Superior Court for arraignment on an assault with a deadly weapon charge, when she failed to show up a bench warrant was issued for her arrest.
Superior Court Commissioner Dennis E. Mulcahy said that Love had forfeited her $55,000 bail and issued a bench warrant and a new bail amount of $150,000. [see full story for more] - Click Here for the Full Story

Floyd Sued By Backup Singer
ArrowFM reports: Even though it's been
twenty-one years since Pink Floyd released their opus Dark Side of the
Moon, a back-up singer on the album thinks the time is right to sue the
band for unpaid royalties. Singer/songwriter Clare Torry claims she wrote
track four, "The Great Gig in the Sky" - however on the LP sleeve, the
lyrics are credited to band members Roger Waters and Richard Wright. However,
if you listen to the song it's actually just Torry belting away without
any discernible lyrics. Pink Floyd and their record label EMI are being
sued for damages and for unlawful copes of the track to be destroyed. Torry
maintains she was only paid $54 for her contribution.-
