In response to countless letters from Dimebag fans criticizing the article, Esquire has sent out the following form letter offering their explanation for the story:
"We're sorry you're offended by the 'This Way Out' page in the April issue of Esquire.
"We do want to point out, however, that the target of the offending joke was not Darrell Abbott. We feel nothing but sympathy for his friends, fans, and family. The target of the joke was the deranged man who shot him. His was a horrible and reprehensible act, as are many of the other 'vices' mentioned in the article." [see full story for more]
