Dolls Movie
Hollywood Reporter reports: First-time filmmaker Greg Whiteley came to the subject of his documentary feature "New York Doll" not as a fan but as a friend of Arthur "Killer" Kane, bassist for the short-lived but influential '70s rock band the New York Dolls.

Their unlikely collaboration began at the Mormon temple in West Los Angeles, where the one-time hard-drinking musician worked part time until his death last year. This loving portrait centers on a June 2004 band reunion that quite startlingly turned out to be a valedictory for Kane. Slated for October release via First Independent Pictures, "New York Doll" is a tender take on life after stardom.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Unsigned MTV
press release reports: Is it the beginning of the end of the major label system when a band that doesn't even have an 8x10 promo photo can get its video on MTV?

A number of folks have been predicting for the past few years that recent advances in technology and the Internet would inevitably change the landscape of the music business, maybe even rendering the current major label system obsolete. Theoretically, an unsigned band could write and record a catchy song, make a video with their friends, and play ball on a national level without ever having to sign a major (or even indie) label contract. Those theories are proving to be correct.

An unsigned band from Wilmington, NC called The Majestic Twelve has cracked the proverbial nut. MuchMusic from Canada is playing the video of their debut single "I Don't Have A Job," and last week, MTV cleared it for upcoming airplay on MTV2 as well.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
