Fatal Stabbing At COC Concert
antiMusic reports: A Corrosion Of Conformity concert in Florida turned deadly last week after a fight broke out between two women in the mosh pit during the show which lead to the stabbing of four people, one fatally, after the boyfriend of one of women wielded a knife against concert goers that were reportedly trying to break up the fight.

AP reports that Tampa Police Spokesman Joe Durkin said a "shoving match" started between two women on the club's dance floor just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday night at the Masquerade club in Ybor City, Fl. The tussle escalated when others tried to break the women apart. That's when a bald man with a knife began stabbing patrons, Durkin said.

Thomas Laskas, a 30-year-old man from St. Petersburg, Fl. died from his injuries; his wife was in critical but stable condition at Tampa General Hospital on Friday. Two other people were treated for injuries and released, according to Billboard. [see full story for more including statements from COC]- Click Here for the Full Story

Night Ranger Vs NBC
BW&BK reports: NIGHT RANGER is striking back at Hit Me Baby One More Time producer Paul Jackson for comments made in this week's US Weekly (June 27, 2005 issue) regarding the band's withdrawal from the show. Night Ranger frontman Jack Blade has issued the following statement:

"We were absolutely stunned and appalled when we read that we supposedly pulled out after a bad rehearsal and that Paul Jackson would have the audacity to make the comment to US Weekly in regards to Night Ranger that 'You have to be good and prepared to do the show.' That statement is an absolute lie about the reasons for us not doing the show." Coldplay Vs Indie Band
Transdreamer Records reports: In an astonishing editorial piece on NPR, the nation's most prestigious public radio broadcast, rock band Coldplay were pitted up against Dressy Bessy on its June 22 broadcast. NPR's critic Ken Tucker compares and contrasts the two artists in what became a duel of indie rock vs. commercial rock giant. It was a "David and Goliath" story that left Coldplay bruised and battered.

After his ambivalent comments on Coldplay, respected journalist and critic Ken Tucker went on to praise and recommend Dressy Bessy: "What person with a healthy heartbeat wouldn't rather listen to Dressy Bessy. The band's new album Electrified is electrifying!" says Tucker. "I listen to a band like Dressy Bessy after listening to Coldplay and I think that I must be living in an alternate universe; where the spunkiest, most life-affirming music is pushed to the margins to make room for the coldly played stuff (now referring to Coldplay) that announces its intentions to be life-affirming, and then can't quite heave its huge ambitions into the postition of making good on that promise." Live 8 Jet
Trent McMartin Special Report: Australia band Jet, whose hits include "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" and "Look What You've Done," have been added to the Canadian edition of Live 8 taking place July 2 in Barrie, Ontario, north of Toronto. Organizers are hoping this will help to combat criticisms that the Canadian Live 8 line up is made up of a bunch of has-beens.

Since the concert line up was announced, critics have panned the event for the lack of youthful and relevant artists performing. Larry LeBlanc of Billboard magazine dismissed the roster as a "back to the future" lineup saying, "It's woefully out of touch with what's going on in today's music in Canada. Where is Nickelback, where is Feist, where is Death From Above 1979, where is Arcade Fire?" [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
