Zep Sues Bar
BW&BK reports: A live rendition of LED ZEPPELIN's Whole Lotta Love' stands to get a Glendale Heights bar in a whole lotta trouble.

According to a lawsuit filed Monday in federal court, 602 North, a bar at 602 E. North Ave., had several bands playing the night of Oct. 2, 2004. Monday, Led Zeppelin members Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and descendants of John Bonham filed suit for the unauthorized performance.

In reality, the legends of Zeppelin are probably unaware the suit was even filed, said Richard Reimer, attorney for the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, which filed the suit but is not named as a plaintiff.

"There was a lengthy effort to persuade the owners to obtain an ASCAP license," Reimer said. "For an establishment like this, the licensing fee runs in the order of $1,500 or so per year." [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Dee Snider Takes on School
BW&BK reports: Snider, the heavy metal star whose 1984 hit We're Not Gonna Take It' saluted teenage rebellion, said he will be at Hamburg Area High School's annual talent show next month when students plug in their amplifiers and let loose.

School administrators had threatened to bar student rock bands from taking part in the talent show because of the potential for injuries caused by moshing, a form of dancing in which participants slam into each other.

Snider, now a disc jockey with Philadelphia rock station WMMR-FM, heard about the controversy and ranted on air about it. School officials eventually backed down, and Snider helped arrange for a security company to work the show. [see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Slash Helps Addict
Melodic Rock reports: The following story is brought to you with great pleasure. A long time contact of mine in LA sent this through today - eager to pass on his experience with the legendary Velvet Revolver/ex-Guns N Roses guitarist Slash.

My friend writes: "I was eating at Casa Vega restaurant in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles yesterday with my best friend. I was trying to cheer her up because her 19 year old daughter has a serious substance abuse problem and won't listen to anyone. Sitting at the table next to us was Slash from Velvet Revolver/Guns 'n' Roses, with his small child. After a little debate as if we should bother Slash, she asked him to please call her daughter on her cell phone because he obviously had beaten whatever demons he had in the past and maybe the kid would listen to him. Without hesitation Slash asked my friend a couple of questions and left a message for her on the daughters' phone. The daughter has not been answering her phone or returning calls. The daughter returned the calls today and had the first pleasant conversation with her mom in ages.[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story

Kelly lost another round in court on Friday, when a Chicago judge rejected his bid to declare the Illinois child-pornography statute unconstitutional (and thereby dismiss the charges against him). Kelly's defense tried to make the argument that if it's not illegal to have sex with a 17-year-old, since that's the age of consent, it shouldn't be illegal to take pictures of a 17-year-old engaging in a sex act. Kazaa Assets Frozen
Wired News reports: The assets of Sharman Networks, the maker of the Kazaa peer-to-peer software, have been frozen pending the outcome of a lawsuit brought against the software-maker by the recording industry.

The personal assets of Sharman's directors, including their homes, have also been frozen following the latest legal push. Australia's Federal Court heard the music industry's motion in Sydney on Friday. The assets of Altnet, which licenses technology to Sharman and is a co-respondent in the action brought against Sharman, have also been affected.

The maneuvering comes just days after Altnet said it would set up a fund designed to give independent record labels a share of Kazaa's advertising revenue. Lee Jaffe, Altnet's president, told Wired News the asset freeze is nothing more than an attempt by the major record labels to choke off a revenue stream destined for the cartel's smaller rivals. Self-produced by WRIGHT, ELEVATE showcases 11 original compositions where dreamy, pop-inflected melodies give way to explosive choruses. It's an album that makes no apologies for its sumptuous, hard-rocking accessibility. On the lead single "Those Around You," WRIGHT delivers stream-of-consciousness lyrics only to arrive at the spiritual question: "Do you believe in only those that are around you? Could you believe in something calling from within?"[see full story for more]- Click Here for the Full Story
