Club Fire Bankruptcy
Blabbermouth reports: The Associated Press reports that a court has accepted a bankruptcy petition from the owners of a nightclub where 100 people died in a 2003 fire started during a GREAT WHITE concert, freeing them from potential civil liability, their lawyer said.

Jeffrey and Michael Derderian, owners of The Station nightclub, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy last September, saying their debts far exceeded their assets. Darkness Not Dropped
SMN reports: THE DARKNESS have, in fact, not been dropped by their US label, Atlantic Records, after only two albums. PR reports: Taking Back Sunday have been nominated for a MTV Video Music Award for "MakeDamnSure," the debut single/video from Louder Now. Fans can vote online through August 31 for their favorite artist in the MTV2 category, which in addition to Taking Back Sunday, includes 30 Seconds to Mars, Three 6 Mafia, Lil Wayne, and Yung Joc. House of Freaks Murder Conviction
MTV reports: Ricky Jovan Gray was convicted Thursday of killing former House of Freaks bandmember Bryan Harvey, Harvey's wife Kathryn and their two young daughters. The family was found dead in its Richmond, Virginia, home in January. Metal Subways
Gigwise reports: The Subways have revealed that they're taking a 'heavier' direction on their second album. 

Speaking to Gigwise, drummer Josh Morgan hinted that the trio held back on their first album and are now being experimental. He told us that they've already got 20 to 30 songs completed and a whole load more B-sides.

Guitar Center reports: Guitar Center today announced the launch of Drum Off 2006, the world's largest and most respected drum competition. Now in its 18th year, Drum Off continues to bring together thousands of the nation's top undiscovered drummers for the chance to compete for incredible prizes, national recognition and the bragging rights of being crowned Drum Off Champion.

Sign-ups for Drum Off 2006 are underway at all Guitar Center stores nationwide (open as of August 1st). Store-level competitions, at which drummers showcase their talent by performing a three-minute drum solo, begin on Sept. 19. Contestants are judged on originality, technique, style, stage presence and overall performance. Drum Off is open to contestants 18 years of age and older. Blabbermouth reports: According to a posting on The Rainbow Fanclan Legacy, RAINBOW's entire catalog will be re-released in two different versions in Japan in August and September. First there is the re-release of the regular CDs on August 30.. Benedictum Nomination
PR reports: San Diego, CA power metal band BENEDICTUM, featuring vocalist extraordinaire Veronica Freeman, guitarist Pete Wells, drummer Blackie Sanchez, keyboardist Chris Morgan, and bassist Jesse Wright, have been nominated in the Best Hard Rock category at this year's San Diego Music Awards. Awards will be handed out on September 18 at Viejas Concerts in the Park with scheduled live performances by P.O.D. and SWITCHFOOT, among others. Balloting is now underway and votes can be cast online through August 31 at the full story link. 

On the live front, BENEDICTUM has been confirmed for two more festivals following the band's earlier appearances at the Gods of Metal in Italy and Metalway in Gernika and Jerez, Spain. Doherty Guilty
Gigwise reports: Pete Doherty has been warned that he faces prison after pleading guilty to drugs charges in court. Doherty appeared at Thames Magistrates Court in London facing five counts of possessing drugs including heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis.
