The city has been given the honour by the European Commission, and organisers for the opening ceremony reveal that Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Star could reunite for the first time since the mid-sixties.
Speaking this week, event organisers reveal McCartney is as good as signed up for the opening ceremony, and could persuade Starr to join him in honouring his home city.
"It's already expected that Sir Paul will be involved but to get Ringo to join him on stage would be the icing on the cake," a source reveals.[see full story for more]
