RIP SOAD?
TuneLab reports: System of a Down's current "hiatus" could possibly turn into a permanent split according to front-man Serj Tankian. In an interview with Kerrang! magazine Tankian said:

Blur Reunion
Gigwise reports: Speculation that the original Blur line-up will reform next year has increased following reports in today's papers. 

After bassist Alex James exclusively told Gigwise in November that Graham Coxon could rejoin the band, with drummer Dave Rowntree later confirming the news, The Sun has claimed the guitarist will record with Blur in Febraury.

George Michael Court Date
Gigwise reports: George Michael has been officially charged with being "unfit to drive" following an incident in October. 

The pop star was said to have been found passed out in his car at a set of traffic lights in Cricklewood, London by police who had been alerted by worried motorists.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed the 43-year-old will appear at Brent Magistrates' Court in London on January 11 after being formally charged just before Christmas. A Quiet Rio? Mike DiMeo Leaves Riot
DiR reports: [Our friends at Rock N Roll Universe sent over the following] In response to all the mail I have been receiving about my status with Riot: I have had many great years with the band, and I am tremendously proud of all the work I have done with them, Especially 'Army of One', but at this point in my life and career, I prefer to forge ahead with a new path musically. I look forward to a new creative beginning with Masterplan, who are an incredibly talented and motivated group of guys!! I wish Riot the best of luck in the future and will always consider them brothers......thank you, Mike DiMeo 

Masterplan are currently gearing up for an extensive European tour with Saxon kicking off in the UK in February....

Iced Earth 07 Plans
blabbermouth.net reports: ICED EARTH guitarist/mainman Jon Schaffer has posted the following message on the band's official web site: "Again I have to apologize for the delay in updates. I've been extremely busy with writing and preproduction for the new ICED EARTH CDs.

"I also lost the one person that was my true mentor and inspiration throughout my life, which was very difficult. My father, Tom Schaffer, died unexpectedly of a massive stroke in October.... "I'm back on track and we are going to start recording on February 1st. We will be releasing a single/EP in June '07 that will feature the 'Something Wicked' trilogy re-recorded and a track that will be an alternate edit of a song that will be on 'Something Wicked Part 2' that now has a working title of 'Come What May'. MTV reports: Radio broadcaster Entercom Communications has agreed to pay a $4.25 million fine to settle a payola lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, according to Bloomberg News. MTV reports: It was only fitting that James Brown's funeral turned into a concert Saturday afternoon (December 30) as he was laid to rest in his hometown of Augusta, Georgia.

Sir Morrissey? Don't Count On It
Filter reports: Morrissey has said that he has wrecked his chances of ever being knighted by Queen Elizabeth II by writing songs like The Smiths' "The Queen Is Dead." However he insists that he is more deserving of knighthood than many of its recipients. On December 23rd at Manchester's G-Mex arena the 47 year old singer said from the stage:
