Mailbag: How the Southwest Was Lost
PR reports: Rolling Stone asked today "SXSW: Is the Party Over?". The simple answer to that question is in the fact that RS is even covering the event. How is this a mailbag? Well, a few readers (ok, publicists and bands) asked us why we haven't provided more postings about the festival this year and the real answer is if we posted every press release related to SxSW that we receive everyday we wouldn't have enough room for real news. Yes, it has gotten that bad with an average of over 35 press releases a day for the past few weeks. So the once cool underground indie fest has been pitchforked into a corporate showcase. Time for something new. Sorry for those hunting more info on the fest, we tried to cover some of the more notable happenings there but were overwhelmed with amount of PR received about "everyones" showcase. However, if you're looking for a killer indie band, look no further than the review at the full story link. This is what SxSW should be all about. - Click Here for the Full Story

Ozzfest Dates
PR reports: Ozzfest, now unofficially dubbed FreeFest, will kick off on July 12th in Kurt Cobain's backyward, a.k.a. Seattle and make it's way across the U.S. (sorry Canada, Sharon doesn't love you) to conclude in the "too hard to vote correctly using a simple ballot" capital of the nation in West Palm Beach, Fl on August 30th.

Admission to this year's metal (and in the past mallcore, posercore and crapcore) festival will be free. Full details have not been announced yet nor the line-up but it believed that fans will have to log-on to "sponsor" websites to secure the free tickets. Once we have the full 411 we'll let you know. The good news is with free admission you can buy more eggs to toss at Sharon while yelling "Up The Irons!".

Here are the dates:
07/12 - Seattle, WA - White River Amphitheatre
07/14 - George, WA - Gorge
07/17 - Sacramento, CA - Sleep Train Amphitheatre
07/19 - Mountain View, CA - Shoreline Amphitheatre

Now Britney's Bulimic
hecklerspray.com reports: Britney Spears has a long road ahead of her finding solutions to all her innumerable problems, but a quick fix might just be to get some new friends, because someone is running around blabbing to everyone that Britney Spears is bulimic and bipolar.

According to one magazine, Britney Spears' rehab stint has been hit with one unexpected problem - the pills that Britney Spears is taking to combat her recently-diagnosed bipolar disorder won't stay down because Britney Spears is claimed to be such a habitual bulimic that she keeps vomiting them all up the second she swallows them. [Perhaps the "friend" misunderstood? Could be that Britney vomited upon hearing K Fed's "music" and hasn't stopped since. Tune in next week when Britney remarries Kevin, has triplets then a sex change operation. All without singing a note! - see full story for more on this current captivating BS story.] - Click Here for the Full Story

MTV Vs Google
Idolator.com reports: This morning, [MTV's parent company] Viacom filed a federal copyright-infringement lawsuit against YouTube and Google, alleging that almost 160,000 unauthorized clips of Viacom's programming were available on the video-sharing site, and that they'd been watched more than 1.5 billion times. Now, Viacom is looking to get paid--to the tune of more than a billion dollars:

"YouTube is a significant, for-profit organization that has built a lucrative business out of exploiting the devotion of fans to others' creative works in order to enrich itself and its corporate parent Google. Their business model, which is based on building traffic and selling advertising off of unlicensed content, is clearly illegal and is in obvious conflict with copyright laws. [Maybe YouTube should charge bands to air their videos? Is this MTV's new web strategy? We don't know but see full story for more on this story] - Click Here for the Full Story

GNR Leak Explained Away
gunsnroses.com reports: The song "Better" has been receiving airplay across the country, but there is no official single release. No one seems to know where the song came from or how it got out. Did Guns N' Roses purposely leak the track? "Here's what I know," keyboardist Dizzy Reed explains to GunsNRoses.com. "We were doing a commercial with Harley-Davidson. Harley was going to do a version using 'Paradise City' and another version using 'Better.' Their Web site even had a version up for like one day with 'Better,' but the version of 'Better' that they had was an unfinished, unapproved demo. That's why it was removed. The version that's getting airplay is that same demo.

"Our understanding of how that happened is that an experimental edit using 'Better' in place of 'Paradise City' was somehow accidentally mislabeled as the 'Paradise City' Harley-Davidson video/commercial and was inadvertently released on the internet. We believe the 'leak' came from this source tape and someone with access to it. For the record, absolutely none of the songs that have been leaked have come from the band or our organization. None of the songs that have been leaked are anything more than demo versions, works in progress. No final mixes. [see full story for more] - Click Here for the Full Story

Otep Addresses Dropping
Blabbermouth reports: OTEP frontwoman Otep Shamaya has issued another statement in response to the persistent rumors that the band has been dropped by Capitol Records as a result of the recently announced merger of Capitol and Virgin Records into the Capitol Music Group.

OTEP's third full-length album, "The_ Ascension", was previously scheduled for release on March 20. Commented Shamaya: "It is true Capitol is going through a very intense reorganization at this time. To the question: Are we dropped? No official word has come down to us. Would it matter? Not really. The matrix of this band is titanium strong. With myself, eViL j, our management, lawyers, pencil pushers, finger pointers, and other assorted suits, sages, soldiers, PLUS our fans and supporters this collective is ready to walk through Vesuvius without breaking a sweat.

"The only thing that truly 'sucks' about this reorganization is the delay of the album which is inevitable. Could be a week, could be a month but it's going to be delayed. [see full story for more]
