Face of Jesus Appears on Guitar
Music Radar reports: The silhouette of a bearded face has been discovered on a Washburn Dreadnought D46SP acoustic guitar in the Instrumental Music And Sound shop in Ludington, Michigan, USA.

The face appears in the body's maple grain just below the bridge and, being bearded, the comparisons to Jesus were inevitable.

"I've been here for 27 years and I've never seen anything close to that the face is so clear," shop employee Jeff Hoyer told the Ludington News. - more on this story

Kanye Blows Keane
Music Radar reports: After conquering the dance world with latest album Perfect Symmetry, Keane are moving on to rap. We know this because drummer Richard Hughes spilled the beans back in October. They did, of course, require the services of a qualified rapper to pull it off in any sort of admirable way. Enter Kanye West

"What a strange week in the life of Keane," pianist Tim Rice-Oxley blogged. "Exactly a week ago I was sitting on the Eurostar in a half-sleep, having just played the last gig of our European tour in Paris and then spent the entire night in the studio with Kanye West."

"He played us the whole of his new album, which sounded truly awesome - the bass was so fat that eventually the mixing desk blew up. Then Kanye did some work on one of our tracks." - more on this story

Xanadu Returns
PR reports: Xanadu, the legendary jazz label founded by veteran producer Don Schlitten that was initially active in the 1970s and 80s, has been acquired by The Orchard, a global leader in music and video entertainment. The label is being reactivated and will release new jazz recordings and remastered titles from its classic catalog beginning in January 2009.

Greg Scholl, president and chief executive of The Orchard, announced Xanadu's return, stating, "Xanadu is a label that was born of passion and both looked to the future through trailblazing releases by contemporary artists, and to the past through its selective acquisition of historic titles by titans of the genre. As fans of and believers in the genre, our stewardship of the Xanadu legacy is something we take seriously. By bringing this label back to the public eye, and investing selectively in new releases by artists in which we believe, we are proud to serve fans of America's unique contribution to global culture."

January 19th sees the first new Xanadu title in several years, with the release of Monk, by the Peter Bernstein Trio. Bernstein, a critical favorite and prolific, sought-after session player, leads a trio backed by Doug Weiss (bass) and Bill Stewart (drums) on 12 Thelonious Monk tunes including "Let's Cool One," "Ruby, My Dear," "Well You Needn't," and "In Walked Bud". - more on this story

Kilimanjaro Rocks Against Cancer
PR reports: The Love Hope Strength Foundation (LHS), an international foundation dedicated to fighting cancer with existing resources in countries around the world, today announced plans for another musical journey, this time in East Africa. Dubbed "Kilimanjaro Rocks", the 12 day journey, slated for September and early October of 2009, will include a lengthy trek to the summit of Africa's highest mountain, camping in the solace of the Tanzanian wilderness, and visits with local cancer patients. The effort is the latest in a series of "Rocks" events that combine music, traveling and trekking to raise money and provide resources for those affected by cancer.

LHS recently made global headlines and built an international army of volunteers for their record-breaking hike and concert on Mt. Everest and musical trek to Machu Picchu, Peru. As with Everest Rocks, where LHS supporters bought Nepal its first mammography and internal radiation machines, and Peru Rocks, where funds raised lead to a mobile cancer care unit, LHS is dedicated to finding a practical and tangible use for monies raised that will help East Africans.
