The Company Band Week: Day 5 |
"Spellbinder" and "Fortune's a Mistress" are influenced by Tim Powers book "Last Call." In a nutshell, his book is about immortals playing cards for souls. To do so they appear in modern day Nevada and play poker with tarot cards. The songs aren't directly about the book, but draw inspiration. The halls of power intersect in weird places.
The EP is available on iTunes right now and will be released in CD form next week. It seriously kicks major ass. For now you can check out clips of the songs and get more info on the band

Axl Wants More Cash? |
The rumors were reported on originally had it that Axl had turned the album in to the label, but the parties had yet to come to terms on the marketing. We were unable to confirm this and have yet to hear back from the GNR camp or the label. Though some GNR faithful are citing an email from guitarist Richard Fortus to a fan as confirmation that the label has the album. A few fans have emailed us about this email, but we have not seen the text. Now a new report says that it's all coming down to Axl wanting more money.
Pulse of the Radio (via Blabbermouth) reports that: "W. Axl Rose is negotiating for more money with his record label before he will release the masters." They cite recent reports about this, but we could not find them. And they did not provide any direct sources for this "spin" on the story.
- This unsourced claim runs counter to what Tom Zutaut said in a letter to the New York Times

British Sea Power Battle Lucifer |
The song "No Lucifer" refers to the main theme of the whole album, the continual epic battle between Good & Evil (where in the album title, "rock music" symbolizes all that is good). This spirit is perhaps best demonstrated in the line, "Is that what the future holds? Malevolence or good?" The chant of "Easy, easy" commonly heard at British pro wrestling matches and football stadiums, is re-appropriated for an audience cheering & jeering the 1-on-1 match between Good & Evil.
In the video, the actors portray a number of despots (I won't name them here, but look closely at their outfits) from the past and the present, symbolizing the constant effort of Evil, with their propaganda, pomp & grandeur, to lure the Good. People, puppets at the mercy of the movements of a hidden hand, are faced with a choice Yes or No? As British Sea Power proudly proclaim, "Several Lucifers come, and we can beat them all".
