Ernie Halter Week: Day 4
antiMusic reports: It's hard to find a unique "singer/songwriter" in this day and age. The mere mention of the "genre" is enough to put most people to sleep, but there are a few exceptions and Ernie Halter is one of them with his unique mix of rock, soul and pop.

Ernie's new album "Starting Over" debuted on the top 25 of the iTunes rock charts earlier this month and with the physical CD hitting stores next week we asked Ernie to tell us a little bit about the songs. Here is Ernie with today's song:

Lighthouse: I wrote this song with David Batteau. I have written with him on my previous album. The feel for the majority of this song is about drama. It is about when things go down in your life, you find out who your real friends are. It's a shame that you don't find this out until something major happens. I did this song in one take, just a vocals and a piano. Lighthouse is my proudest song.

Hearing is believing, so go grab a listen and learn more about Ernie and his new album right - here

Kid Rock Accused of Fan Assault
E! reports: An encounter with some (former) fans may have left Kid Rock feeling a little punchy, but it also left his onetime worshippers more than a little litigious.

The trio of autograph seekers who first filed a $15 million suit against the Detroit rap-rocker in March over a 2006 skirmish at Hollywood's Roosevelt Hotel have amended their complaint, adding additional claims of assault and battery and clarifying allegations of negligence against Rock and his cohorts.

In the new version of the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Tuesday, Michael Medlin, Carlos Bonilla and Jose Perez say they were punched and left licking their wounds in front of the hotel-based Teddy's nightclub following a run-in with Rock, his entourage and members of the Boo-Yaa Tribe. - more on this story

The Black Crowes Claim Gretchen Wilson Stole Song
PR reports: The Black Crowes and their legal counsel have issued notices of copyright infringement against the musical artist Gretchen Wilson, Turner Network Television (TNT), Wilson's record label Sony BMG and Wilson's publisher, J Money Music.

The copyright infringement notices allege that Gretchen Wilson and her songwriters have wrongfully exploited Chris and Rich Robinson's original composition of their hit song "Jealous Again" for her song entitled "Work Hard Play Harder". TNT has further exploited the use of the composition by using Wilson's song in video advertisement and promotion for the show "Saving Grace". "Jealous Again" was the lead single released in 1991 on The Black Crowes multi platinum debut album "Shake Your Money Maker". - more on this story

Butthole Surfer Vs Soundman
Billboard reports: The triumphant return of the Butthole Surfers to New York nearly ended in a melee last night (July 29) at Webster Hall, after frontman Gibby Haynes was escorted off-stage by security following a physical altercation with the club's soundman.

Throughout the set, which included performances of such college radio staples as "Cowboy Bob," "Cherub," "Moving to Florida" and the demented Black Sabbath send-up "Sweet Loaf," Haynes kept motioning to the soundman to turn up his monitor mix.

Growing increasingly agitated towards the second half of the 90-minute gig, Haynes walked over to the soundboard on the side of the stage to confront the soundman, which ended in a confrontational high-five and Haynes walking back to the microphone smiling.

Portugal. The Man Partner with Equal Vision
HER reports: As the music industry continues to adapt to allow artists to be more involved in their careers - an act that was perhaps accelerated by Radiohead's most recent release - and the band's desire to cater more to their fans, Portugal. The Man and their label and publishing company, Approaching AIRBalloons, and Equal Vision Records have inked a unique agreement, it has been announced. The first release under this exceptional deal will be P.TM's third full-length CD, Censored Colors, set for a September 16, 2008 release.

One of the factors that makes this partnership so unique is that the members of Portugal. The Man will share in the risk as well as in the rewards with Equal Vision, something that is easier for a Platinum act (like Radiohead) than a developing artist. Having self-financed the "Censored Colors" album, and while they had other label options, P.TM welcomed the idea of having an "open canvas" with Equal Vision, where they could work at their own pace and be intimately involved in all factors of their recording career. - more on this story
