The Very Best of Little Richard
conqueroo reports: When Little Richard recorded "Tutti Frutti" in 1955 at Cosimo's Studio in New Orleans with A&R man Bumps Blackwell, rock 'n' roll was taken to a thrilling new level. The pounding piano, the high voice and trills, and the sexually suggestive lyrics catapulted the former Richard Penniman to the top of the charts and to legendary status.

On July 29, Specialty Records (now owned by Concord Music Group) will issue The Very Best of Little Richard, a comprehensive 25-track compilation, and the first in 20 years to showcase all the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Famer's Specialty hits.

The collection also features an original pre-rock 'n' roll demo, 1955's "Baby," plus a rousing live medley of "Ain't That a Shame/I Got a Woman"/"Tutti Frutti" recorded in Paris in 1964 and a rehearsal take of "Hound Dog" (1956). Billy Vera, himself a rock 'n' roll and R&B veteran, wrote the liner notes. - more on this story

Jordan Sweeney Hitting The Road to Recovery
PR reports: Jordan Sweeney, 23, suffers from ulcerative colitis (UC), a form of inflammatory bowel disease that affects the large intestine or colon that can severely limit the quality of life. Now, thanks to the support of his online fans and fellow UC sufferers, Jordan will be releasing his second acoustic rock CD, Road to Recovery in two weeks. The new CD will take up where the last CD left off, sharing some of the trials of a young man fighting his way through UC while living a full rich life in Ventura with his wife Katie, now 24 weeks pregnant with their first child.

To raise awareness and inspire UC patients, families, friends, and communities, Jordan has been offering a sneak preview of his new CD during a nationwide concert series, sponsored by the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) Take Steps program and Centocor, makers of a drug called Remicade used to treat Jordan's UC.

Cory Chisel Blends Americana and Delta Blues with Cabin Ghosts
PR reports: Cory Chisel forged his first connection to the power of song through the music he heard, and made, in church. His father was a Baptist minister, his mother played piano during services, and an upbringing surrounded by sermons and spirituals instilled in Cory the passion and portent of language and melody, and a fluency in the gospel's rich vernacular of loss and redemption.

Based in Appleton, WI with his band, The Wandering Sons, Chisel's upcoming six song EP, "Cabin Ghosts" reflects the inspiration of his upbringing with a spare Americana-saturated sound that is its own exquisite blend of folk-country and Delta blues. [the pr didn't include a release date] With his voice full of soul and longing, Chisel's expressive vocals and the Sons' loosely orchestrated, impeccable playing emerge fully formed yet somehow familiar and as confident in its sonics as in its lyrical echoes of existential grace and mystery. - more on this story

Highschool Musical Goes Generic Emo Pop
antiMusic reports: Before we get to this PR we have to say that we have nothing against The Faded per se, but it takes a major stretch of the definition of punk to include them in that genre. It's sort of like calling N Sync metal. In fact, the song that the following PR is about sounds far closer to N Sync than Social Distortion.

To be fair the band call themselves "alternative rock" but then toss in a bunch of genres to describe their sound (which includes mid-80s techno-punk among others, we didn't hear this at all. Maybe they were referring to the leadsinger's hair cut being as silly as A Flock of Seagulls?) but they basically sounds like any generic emo-pop band you'll find on the Warped tour.

The reason we are making an issue of this is because it's getting a bit old hearing record labels toss out bogus labels for generic bands trying to make them sound like they are something different. These labels should instead turn their concentration on finding bands that are really different and then the "marketing" will be a bit more honest. - With all that said here is the PR:
