The Number 12 Looks Like They Have A New Singer
PR reports: The Number 12 Looks Like You has added select headlining dates surrounding the upcoming 'Heads Will Roll' tour with Protest The Hero, Misery Signals and Scale The Summit. The band sets off for Fort Wayne, Indiana next week for the first of three headlining shows leading up to the HWR tour kickoff in Denver. A headlining tour of Canada will be announced shortly.

The Number 12 released their fourth full-length, Worse Than Alone, on Eyeball Records last month and just returned home from their spring headlining run that was their first without singer Justin Pedrick. The band issued the following statement: "5 blown trailer tires, devious strippers, body slams, pneumonia, ravaged equipment, psychedelics, and a lost singer are only some of the things that we encountered on this past tour. It was an incredible time! We would like to thank those who came out to the shows and shared these unpredictable moments."

"We've seen a number of posts and comments wondering about Justin, and we are sad to announce that Justin is no longer with us due to personal issues related to depression and anxiety. It is unfortunate that he will not be part of what's to come, but his health comes first and we wish him the best of luck. The #12 has always maintained a positive outlook, one that feeds off the support of our fans. We will continue playing and writing music for the wonderful fan base we have. Those of you that saw us on this last tour can vouch that we still killed it on stage like always. This will only get better as we tighten the loose ends. Come sing along as we tear it up with Protest The Hero and beyond. The Canadian border patrol better double check us because we are looking to rock and party harder than ever! See you all soon." #12

Interpol Bassist Film Premiere Delayed
PR reports: Due to changes in the installation of the film, My Friends Told Me About You premiere will be rescheduled for late May.

My Friends Told Me About You is the filmmaking debut of Carlos Dengler, bassist of infamous NYC based rock band Interpol. The 26 minute short film targets the idea of celebrity as affliction and premieres in New York City at Anonymous Gallery on April 17th.

Filmed around Chicago in 2007, MFTMAY charts the journey of a man at the beginning of a downward spiral. Paranoia, confusion, and anger start to color all that he knows to be true and as reality blurs with his subconscious fears, an alternate world propelled by violence and mistrust begins to take over. As sonic as it is visual, Dengler also composed the original score for MFTMAY in collaboration with acclaimed English clarinetist Ian Mitchell. - more on this story

Datarock To Go Soph Red
PR reports: Following an exciting week at SXSW that included sharing a stage with heroes DEVO, Norwegian rockers Datarock announce the North American release of their highly anticipated sophomore album RED on September 1, 2009.

The first single "Give It Up" -- a brilliant slice of eighties inspired rock/pop -- is available now on iTunes. Datarock has also just unveiled their rollicking new video for "Give It Up," which draws inspiration from classic duels, such as Michael Jackson "Beat It" and "Bad," the 1951 film West Side Story and the 1996 re-make of Romeo & Juliet.

"Give It Up" was initially an idea for a music video before it became a song, the lyrics actually paraphrasing some of these famous face offs. "There is a dance off," explains frontman Fredrik Saroea, "where the Datarock gang battles the bad guys. In the end, everybody joins the Datarock gang. I'm like Mercutio, telling Romeo to shape up, snap out of it, give it up." He continues, "Thing is, just singing a song about dancing... it's too simple. Everyone's gonna dance anyway. So it's nice to do something insane in the lyrics, like paraphrasing, you know, Romeo & Juliet!" - more on this story

Merykid Plans Two New Releases
PR reports: Merykid is set to release his new EP "Boy and The Bird" on June 30, 2009 following with a live album release entitled "Merykid: Live at The Magic Attic." "Boy and The Bird" will be available on iTunes but the live album will be available for free download online.

In regard to both his first EP and upcoming live album's free availability to download, Merykid shares, "With home recording studios and the newfound accessibility to music via the internet, I believe there is no greater exposure than showing you care enough about your prospective audience to give them as much as they want. I hope to be the Lil Wayne of folk music."

"Boy & The Bird" was produced, mixed and engineered by Jaime Radar. In contrast to the first EP that was written entirely acoustically and recorded by himself in a closet, this follow up EP was recorded in a haunted church, with a live drummer and string section, and the sound was greatly intensified. The object was for Merykid to experiment as much as possible with different instruments and tempo changes, while still keeping melodies and grooves a priority. - more on this story

Dubious Ranger Discuss Their Weapon
PR reports: Dubious Ranger are preparing to release their new CD, Uneasy Truce at the Watering Hole on April 21. Lead guitarist Jonathan Eccles explains the band's creative process, for the album's lead single, "Weapon", and its accompanying frenetically surreal music video

"A good deal of our songs aren't about overarching subject matter or messages, but rather subscribe to the David Byrne theory that loaded mantras, syllabic beauty, and stream of consciousness observation can create an ambiguous art from which any listener can derive their own meaning. [Lead singer/keyboardist] Alexander [Eccles] had this phrase 'anything is a weapon', which can be taken both literally and as a call to arms. He was hoping to write a poppy dance song, so he took a liking to the phrase 'Don't you mess with the girl next door no don't you dance with my monopoly,' which besides being syllabically interesting and memorable, is also a straightforward retread of the 'that girl is mine, don't you mess with her' idea that's been around since time immemorial. At the same time, the word 'monopoly' exposes the sick twist of sexist ownership that's always existed just under the surface of that message."

"As for the verses, it was always just about what sounded good to say, and what conjured jarring imagery or punny wordplay. 'Licorice is a weapon' is a Devo reference (a band that does not get enough credit for how awesome they were), 'Kerouac is a weapon' is an ode to the stream of consciousness writing we subscribe to not to mention our trippy general mindset and then there's the obligatory knock on religious fundamentalism being used as a earthly cudgel ('Jesus is a weapon if your mind is a [expletive deleted]'). Plus, we conjure some uniquely hometown imagery (homeless dudes flashing you, fights near BBQs in Dolores Park) because we like San Francisco and every time we mention it in a song we get imaginary bonus points"

. Butch Walker: So Alive
Opening his sold-out show at Chicagos House of Blues, Butch Walker walked out in a t-shirt, jeans and a vest and sat behind the piano alone. Right from the first note, Walker wore his heart on his sleeve and brought immediacy to the show. - Read the full Butch Walker: So Alive review

. Blood of the Black Owl - A Feral Spirit
Blood of the Black Owl's A Feral Spirit is every bit a spirit journey as it is a heavy metal album. At times frenzied and ferocious, at others serene and meditative, Spirit captures the human experience from the perspective of the natural world. - Read the full Blood of the Black Owl - A Feral Spirit review
