Music Legend Sly Stone Homeless?
MusicRadar reports: Forty years ago, Sly & The Family Stone were stars at Woodstock. But today, the band's mastermind, funk pioneer Sly Stone, is practically destitute, scraping by on Social Secuity and living in campers and cheap hotels.

At least that's the picture painted in Coming Back For More, an upcoming documentary by Dutch filmmaker Willem Alkema, who previously helmed another Stone doc called Dance To The Music.

According to Alkema, Stone's financial woes stem back to a contract the artist signed in the late '80s with his former manager Jerry Goldstein. In exchange for the rights to Stone's music, Goldstein agreed to pay the entertainer "fixed expenses" and a regular allowance. - more on this story

Wanna Hear Linkin Park Chester Bennington's New Band Dead By Sunrise?
antiMusic reports: Chester Bennington, lead singer for Linkin Park, has a new band called Dead By Sunrise. Their debut album, Out Of Ashes, hits stores on Oct. 13th but the first single "Crawl Back In" is out now and we have it for you to check out!

He hope to have Chester check in soon with a Single Out special to tell us about the song but here is a little background on the album and band followed by the link to check out the new song! The band, which is Bennington on vocals, guitarists Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh (from Orgy/Julien-K), bassist Brandon Belsky, drummer Elias Anda (also from Julien-K), and keyboardist Anthony Valcic, recorded OUT OF ASHES in Los Angeles with producer Howard Benson (Motorhead, My Chemical Romance).

The songs on Out Of Ashes began to take shape during some downtime Linkin Park had before the band began recording their double-platinum 2007 album Minutes to Midnight. "I came up with a few songs that felt and sounded really good, but I knew they weren't right stylistically for Linkin Park," Bennington says. "They were darker and moodier than anything I'd come up with for the band. So I decided to work on them on my own rather than turn them over and have them transformed into Linkin Park tracks." - Hear their first single 'Crawl Back In' here!

Eddie Van Halen Updates Fans
antiMusic reports: Eddie Van Halen updated fans on what he's been up to lately: Janie and I had a very special and amazing wedding here at the house with our friends and family. Wolfgang was my best man and Alex married us. Janie's Pomeranian walked her down the aisle. It was one of the biggest and best moments of our lives.

Our European honeymoon was just as wonderful, it was good to see Amsterdam again. I had hand surgery and arthritis treatment in Germany and recovery is going extremely well. Alex, Wolfgang and I just started rehearsing up at the studio again. It feels great to play and my hand is getting better every day. I am not entirely up to speed yet, but I am getting there.

I was asked to do a cameo for Two And A Half Men . I typically shy away from these requests as I am not an actor, but Charlie and I are friends and since it was a scene with him, I agreed. Charlie and I had a great time, even though I was very nervous. The cast and crew were a pleasure to work with and helped me feel a little more at ease. I believe this episode airs September 21st. - more on this story

Singled Out: MadLove (Mr. Bungle / Fantomas)
antiMusic reports: Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Trevor Dunn (who you may know from his exceptional work with Mr. Bungle and Fantomas) tells us about the song "Absence & Noise" from his new rock band MadLove's debut album 'White With Foam,' which hits stores on September 1st. We now turn it over to Trevor for the story:

"Absence & Noise" is a song that barely made it passed the initial stages of writing. Before I really solidified in my mind what the music of MadLove would be, I had toyed around for a while with a few songs in a similar style. None of them were to my liking and then I picked up a baritone guitar and belched out the chord progression for A & S. I went on to write and develop about 15 songs to choose from, and before I even considered lyrics I was pretty sure that this one wasn't going to make the cut. It's working title was "foam 104" as it was first written at 104 bpm.

Hilmar Jensson talked me out of bagging it. Although I didn't think the song was that interesting to begin with, I saw the potential to make it work with the right production in the studio. The fact that it was sort of a generic style, but tuned low as well as the three-bar phrasing of the intro were enough to inspire me to write lyrics about being alone with a lot of voices in one's head.

The Cars' Candy-O has been one of my favorite records since it came out in 1979 and that's the flavor I was going for in terms of adding a pant-load of guitar overdubs. The beauty of writing something simple is that it allows for abundant orchestration. The song was little more than a skeleton the day we recorded basic tracks, but working close with Hilmar in the overdubs we were able to come up with some very tasteful guitar fills, subtle doublings and tone variations.

After almost getting axed, Absence & Noise became one of my favorite songs on the record. I love how Ches sticks to the high-hat, hitting, I believe a crash cymbal once! And I love the way that my voice blends with Sunny's, which is something we had no idea word work so well. The bridge was also very skeletal initially. Between Joel Hamilton's instinctive production ideas and Sunny's vocal mastery, we were able to craft this section into something that really serves a cinematic, reflective purpose in the song.

The intro and outro were originally twice as long but I felt this song has radio-potential, so I edited them down in mastering getting the length down to under four minutes. The rest is marketing!

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album and band - right here!
