Dio Vs Dio
Blabbermouth reports: The management for legendary heavy metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio (Heaven & Hell, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Dio) has released the following statement to Blabbermouth.Net:

"It has come to [our] attention that a band calling themselves Dio are advertised in Pollstar under Ronnie James Dio as playing Zomerpop festival in Netherlands on Sept 5/6. This is not Ronnie James Dio or anything to do with Dio. This is a trademark name. This is very misleading for the Dio fans."

The Zomerpop date has since been removed from Ronnie James Dio's concert listing on Pollstar. However, "DIO" is still being advertised as taking part in the event on the festival's official web site. - Find out who this other Dio is

Daughtry Rules America
RCA reports: Daughtry's second album, Leave This Town (19 Recordings/RCA), debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 269,299 copies sold in its first week of release. The record is also No. 1 on the Digital Albums Chart and the Rock Chart. Daughtry moves Michael Jackson from the top of the sales charts, where the late singer has dominated for the previous three weeks.

Leave This Town is Daughtry's first album to debut at the top of the Billboard 200 and its second consecutive No. 1 album. The band's self-titled debut entered the charts at #3, sold more than 4.5 million copies, spent two weeks at No. 1 and is still on the charts more than two years after its release. The first single from Leave This Town "No Surprise" is quickly ascending the pop charts and currently with the no. 1 video at Vh1.

"This album is special because it's our first together as a band," Chris Daughtry said. "We poured our hearts into these songs to make the record we've always dreamed about. To have people respond the way they have is extremely gratifying, but even more humbling."

Thrice Album Leaks Three Months Early
Punknews.org reports: Thrice have updated their blog addressing the very early leak of their upcoming album, Beggars. The record apparently leaked onto the internet - albeit with voice watermarks - this Monday in advance of the October 13, 2009 release.

The band had this to say: Obviously, we're incredibly disappointed with what happened. We understand that records leak constantly and that it's almost entirely unavoidable nowadays, but we never thought we'd have to deal with a record leaking three months before it's release date, and certainly never thought we'd have to deal with a leak before anyone in the band had even gotten a master reference of the record, or before the artwork for the booklet had even been completed.

"We're also disappointed that you're hearing the record for the first time, watermarked, with a Vagrant Records voiceover over every song. And we're disappointed that the leak has thrown a massive and immovable wrench into the efforts that many people have made to prepare for the three months leading up to release. That said, what's done is done, and we're moving forward." - But does this mean they will move up the release date?

One Legged Metal Fan Gets Away With Concert Beating
The Argus reports: A one legged metal fan, who beat up another rocker at Alice Cooper concert at Southampton Guildhall, was today spared an immediate prison sentence.

Jurors heard how Andrew Miller, 46, sat bare chested and removed his artificial leg emblazoned with the motif of the music legend in the front row of the balcony.

But violence flared during the support act when John Lynch complained he was encroaching on his seat as they sat next to each other. Fearing trouble might erupt, his wife suggested they should leave but Miller grabbed him and punched him several times on the head and face. The city crown court was told Mr Lynch was taken to hospital suffering from a cut wrist and facial bruising.

Anvil Set Album Release and Giant AC/DC Shows
HER reports: Certainly one of the most feel-good rock n' roll comeback stories of recent times is that of Canadian heavy metal band Anvil. The band, considered a major influence for a generation of hard rockers including Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Guns N' Roses, was the subject of a critically acclaimed, must-see rock-doc, 'Anvil! The Story of Anvil,' directed by Sacha Gervasi. And in the process, the film has made the group (led by singer/guitarist Steve "Lips" Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner - both founding members) a household name. But the group's story will certainly not end with the film.

First up for Anvil are U.S. shows opening for Aussie rock legends AC/DC - in football stadiums. We're really excited about these shows, we've only heard awesome things about playing in football stadiums. I was with the Green Day guys last night, and they were telling me, 'Man, it's probably going to be the gig of your life'!"

And then on September 15, This is Thirteen will finally see proper national distribution on CD and vinyl via VH1 Classic Records. The CD will feature the newly recorded, never-before released bonus track "Thumb Hang." The collectible double vinyl LP boasts newly re-recorded versions of Anvil classics "Metal on Metal" and "666." The album, originally recorded in 2007 and produced by Chris Tsangarides (Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy), was primarily available directly from the band via their website and at their concerts. - more on this story

KISS Legend Jams With Nickelback
Blabbermouth reports: Kevin Alba from MetalAsylum.net sent Blabbermouth the following report about an impromptu jam session at Tuesday night's Nickelback concert: "I just got in from the Nickelback, Hinder, Papa Roach, and Saving Abel show [on July 21, 2009] at the PNC Bank Art Center in Holmdel, NJ.

"About halfway through Nickelback's set, lead singer Chad Kroeger announced that a very special jam session was coming up next and told the audience that it would blow the crowd's mind and if you weren't into the show yet, you were about to be sucked right into it. He told the audience that they were going to do an AC/DC song and introduced Austin Winkler, the lead singer from HINDER to take over vocal duties.

"As he came out, the band ripped into the AC/DC classic 'Highway to Hell'. Right before the second verse kicked in, Chad introduced PAPA ROACH lead singer Jacoby Shaddix and seconds into him singing the second verse Chad introduced Ace Frehley [KISS] and the crowd went absolutely insane as he started playing guitar which right after the second verse gave way to an amazing guitar solo. Ace finished out the song with the all-star lineup and shook hands with everyone on stage and waved to the audience before making his exit." - Blabbermouth has video of the jam here

Singled Out: Drive A (Matt Sorum)
antiMusic reports: Welcome to Singled Out! where we ask artists to tell us the inside story of their latest single. Today Drive A's lead singer/guitarist Bruno Mascolo tells us about the Matt Sorum produced track "Are You Blind," from their brand new album. Here is Bruno: I almost always write the music to a song and add the lyrics later, the same with "Are You Blind." I wrote the music to "Are You Blind" about 2 weeks before we actually recorded it for the album. One day I picked up my guitar and that beginning riff was the first thing I played when I turned on my amp. Not sure where it came from, but I thought it was pretty rad so I kept messing with it and always came back to the original approach. Believe it or not, everything in this song just came easy - once I had the intro and tagged it, the song took off from there. A lot of times the songs are put together in pieces, write a part here add a riff there or whatever. With "Are You Blind," I wrote it all at once in one sitting from beginning to end and I really think it set the tone for the whole record.

That was one of two songs produced by Matt Sorum on the record and he got really good guitar tones. The drums really help to push the song as well. I wrote "Are You Blind" right after coming off tour so the song is just a burst of energy and is great to play live. It is usually our last song and is great for crowd participation. We usually extend a few of the parts, especially the "Going Down, going down" part with the tom-snare beat underneath. It tends to work and is a great way to end the set.

As far as the lyrics and title are concerned, its basically about getting your ---- together and moving forward: Are You Blind? / Can You See What's Right In Front Of Me?

There is a goal, a bigger picture. Figure it out, you know?

The songs on our album are about being frustrated and the lyrics are personal, but everyone listening can relate to them in their own way. I think that is what sets us apart from a lot of the bands out there right now. We are experiencing the exact same things as our fans and that is generally what our songs are about.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album - right here!
